The old Grand Avenue Mall skywalks spanning Plankinton Avenue and North 2nd Street are getting a new look in the form of brightly colored murals, thanks to a partnership between The Avenue, the ASQ Center and Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21.

The intersection at Wisconsin Avenue and 3rd Street used to be the heartbeat of downtown. We’ve re-imagined how this collection of buildings can once again be full of life. It’s called The Avenue.

The Avenue is a re-imagined use of the buildings that were once the The Grand Avenue Mall. This unprecedented renewal will become a vibrant intersection of food, ideas and lifestyle. The heart of this vision is 3rd Street Market Hall, a world class, eclectic food hall with endless culinary surprises and entertaining experiences. The Avenue will also be home to new and historic office spaces as well as the Plankinton Clover Apartments, both offering unparalleled downtown amenities. Our goal is to create safe and dynamic environments where we can all feel more connected to our city and each other.

This effort is the first-ever urban mall transformation of its type. We’ll be creating a vibrant ecosystem of opportunity in a part of downtown Milwaukee that has struggled for many years. To initiate a world class food hall, new and historic office spaces, and iconic apartments, all within what used to be a giant mall, is a bold move and we believe it’s going to thrive in this location.

This part of downtown is about to come alive.
