From Geo
It comes with a heavy heart to make this post.
But first let me tell you the joy it has been to serve our neighborhood. I moved back into the Southside, down the block, to see where I could be most effective. To see how our streets moved. To see how La Bodega could impact our community in a positive, uplifting way. Free of stereotypes and categories. A space where the everyday individual and families could come in and share our space. A place where you could come in and chat about your struggles and receive affirmation for your triumphs. We tapped in long before we opened our doors. Feeding our homeless and less fortunate. Bringing in people out the cold and offering them a cup of coffee and a coat if we had it available. Closing down our doors and earning potential to house resources for those in need. Not for clout or acknowledgement but because I personally know what it is to be without. I know what it is to struggle. I know what it is to dig deep and come up short. I know what it is to receive help and come back around. This is what La Bodega was,is and hopefully will be remembered for.
Our food was amazing. But that you can find anywhere else. Our music and events were like no other. But you can go to the hundred other establishments doing events. The one thing that truly goes and can’t be replaced is the unity and community that was built every single day we opened our doors.
I want to personally say Thank you to Your Move MKE Inc. for always showing us love and unwavering loyalty and support. Pulpa de Guayaba and Miguel for always offering us their support and talent for anything we asked. The Pit Boss Monkey, LLC for helping us curate a menu that the community loved. To all the talented people who joined us in our journey..
My partner in crime Eleazar Maldonado and each and everyone of his family and friends who have helped us along the way. To my son Josue for sidetracking his life to come in and help us when we began to grow.
With that being said LaBodega will be closing its doors effective immediately. The reasoning why is not important. Just know it was an honor and privilege to try to give our community something to be proud of!
