The Village Diner is 70 years old! šŸ„³ā¤ļø

70 years of serving meals, making memories, and welcoming some pretty incredible people through our doors.

Just imagine the stories these walls could tellā€¦ first dates, family breakfasts, late-night conversations, celebrations, friendships, and generations of families sitting in these very same booths.

Since 1956, this little diner has seen a whole lot of life ā€” and weā€™re pretty sure there are a few REALLY good stories out there. šŸ˜‰

Be the person who brightens someoneā€™s day. ā¤ļø

After a difficult week dealing with vandalism at the diner, Iā€™ve been reminded of just how much kindness exists in the world. We received so many messages, calls, and words of support, and Iā€™m truly grateful for every one of them.

It was a pleasure to finally meet Rolando Pujol, journalist and author of The Great American Retro Road Trip, along with Kyle Kyle Supley - MisterMidCentury and branden_wuensch.

It means so much to connect with genuinely kind people through this little diner. Over the years, many of the people Iā€™ve met here have become dear friends.

Iā€™ll never forget when Kyle reached out after noticing our vintage clock wasnā€™t working ā€” and then simply fixed it for me. ā¤ļø I also remember reading Rolandoā€™s post after his 2019 visit and the kind words he shared about us. Weā€™ve been Facebook friends ever since, and his support has continued through the years.

Itā€™s easy to underestimate the impact of small acts of kindness. During hard times especially, the people who check in, show up, or offer a few kind words can completely change your day.

Thatā€™s one of the greatest gifts this diner has given me ā€” the people.

So, be the person who brightens someoneā€™s day. You may never know how much they need it.

And to everyone who brightened ours this weekā€¦ thank you. ā¤ļø

Hi everyone, this is Maria, owner of the Village Diner.

As many of you may have seen from the Eastern Pike Regional Police Departmentā€™s post, our diner was vandalized sometime late last night or early this morning.

Thankfully, as far as we know, there was no damage to the diner itself. Unfortunately, our flower box, mailbox, and sign were destroyed. Itā€™s upsetting to come in and see something like this happen to a place that means so much to us, but we are very grateful that no one was hurt and that the damage was not worse.

Most importantly, we are OPEN for business today and very thankful to be able to say that.

We truly appreciate everyone who has reached out with kind words, concern, and support. It means more to us than you know. We are very fortunate to be part of such a caring community.

Thirty-two years ago, I graduated from Johnson & Wales University with a degree in Hospitality Management. Thirty-two years ago was also the last time my roommates and I were all together in Providence.

To say we were emotional and proud this weekend would be an understatement. This school and this city shaped us in so many ways. Those years marked the incredible transition from teenagers to adults, and we were so fortunate to experience it together.

Not only did we receive an outstanding education, but we also built friendships that have stood the test of time. Even after all these years and countless miles between us, we continue to be each otherā€™s biggest cheerleaders.

When I started at Johnson & Wales Providence, it was the same year my parents bought our family . I worked 14 hour days 7 days a week that summer until I moved to RI for school. Restaurants were all I had ever known, so studying hospitality felt like the natural path. Looking back, I realize that Johnson & Wales didnā€™t just prepare me for a careerā€”it helped shape the person and business owner I would become.

Thirty-two years later, Iā€™m still doing what I love. I draw on the lessons I learned at JWUā€”not just about hospitality, but about treating people like family and creating experiences.

Iā€™m forever grateful for the education, the memories, and, most importantly, the lifelong friendships that began in . Did you know the first diner in America was a horse drawn wagon in Providence, RI?
