"Finally got to experience the DIZZY thing in real life............"

While tossing out pizzas and a pop-up french dip night, I get a ticket that says "Jeff C." Scratches head. 🤷‍♂️

Prior to this, I see a large, hearty man sitting at the bar by himself drinking a pint, and while pumping out food for others, I'm thinking, that looks a lot like a "Christianson" I know. In fact, he looks just like a kid I used to know and maybe he grew up. But what would he be doing here?

*keeps cooking, but also thinking. Can't help it. Always thinking. Ugh.

Low and behold, Dallas comes into the kitchen and says "your second cousin is out there."

Yep.

My radar is still trackin'

Like remembering the band no one can think of from the 80's but you nail it with 2 notes.

After crankin' out most of the food, we finally got a conversation.

*mind you, we haven't seen each other since my dad's funeral 14 years ago.

We were never close, grew up in the same podunk way, at/during different times. In northern MN.

And here lies "family" right before me.

But he's unfamiliar. An adult now. New territory. He was a kid then. Why is he here? Let it just happen.

Conversation starts off small, per normal relationship rekindling or getting-to-know-each-other situations.

Then it happens.

I could be this guy's dad btw. Welp, not by looking at the photo, but YEARS wise. What is this "kid" doing here? IDK?

Side note, I grew up with his dad. And he was a legend.

And here we are.

Generations apart. Common memories, kinda. But by the end of the conversation, so so so much more.

All this to say, maybe we aren't that different after all. Not so divided. Time marches on, yet some things hopefully stay the same.

Even in the house we built, I still meet strangers, that become friends, sometimes even actual FAMILY. Who knew? Even when they're actually family.

Jeff knew.

He was here training with RDO @ Deere. From FARGO, ND. Which is basically at the edge of the Antarctic ice wall. Yet, made a point of coming here. Why? 🤷‍♂️ Planned it. I had no idea.

And thank you JEFF!

More than you know from a frustrated, burnt out old relative that you only knew as a kid. Yet you made the effort.

Kinda think this sums things up.

For all of us.

Blessed.

And thank you all for doin' the same. I see it.

"Strangers becoming family."

"Enjoy the ride."

*unless they're sh*tty family, then embrace the strangers." 🤣

"Glad I got to experience it for myself. Thanks Jeff!" Proud of you SIR. Take care of your beautiful family, do some dad sh*t and let the chips fall where they may. Till we see each other again, in maybe another 14 years. I'll be rooting you on."

"Enjoy the ride."

*pay no attention to the scars on my arm, those aren't moles or tags, they're burn marks from dropping ale battered cheese curds in the fryer. 🤣 Also available only on Tuesday's and Wednesday's.

See ya' tomorrow. Back to making pizza dough.

"Minnesota State Fair Cheese Curds", my version........
....lightly ale battered (not breaded, breaded sux), wisconsin cheese curds w/house ranch and raspberry habanero sauce.

Where's that "Cheese Pull Guy" (CPG) when you need him?

Alas, I did my best. I give it "one" star.

Available during our Tavern Nights on Tuesday's and Wednesday's.

See ya' tomorrow.

"So I f*cked up."..................I'll own it.

Per the usual, according to social media I'm not doin' somethin' right. I get it.

Tried to open a small bar in a small town.

It became a RESTAURANT. Everything I was trying to avoid after decades in the biz. Despite the fact we don't have the facility nor capacity to actually be one. Yet we held our own however, just sayin'.

"Cheers Bar, with elevated food." That was the idea. Anyone still here in 2026?

Didn't happen.

My fault though. Again, I'll own it.

People demanded a restaurant and I leaned into it. Hard. I saw people PEOPLING though. So I ran with it.

Not what I intended. See first photo. Didn't hide it and still don't.

And I'm glad we did it. So many memories. Wonderful times. Blessed.

But it's time to pump the brakes. For me. Let the HATE begin.

It's time to REBRAND. Actually, in my mind, go back to my original vision.

So please hear me out, has nothin' to do with anti-family, big groups, takeout, catering, etc. Somehow the public, and a lot recently, have a different expectation of what this place is and how it should run. And tell ya' the truth, kinda tired of it.

We can't be EVERYTHING TO EVERYBODY". We've tried. I've tried. Failed.

And to be honest, my breaking point is putting my staff through making apologies NIGHTLY for not having accommodations and seating for 20. Not doing TOGO. Having no online ordering system. Etc. Etc. Etc.

We're a sh*tty bar in Milan. 🤷‍♂️

"Yosemite!?"

Sorry, not sorry.

I've sounded like a whiny b*tch in many posts, I get it, but that wasn't the intention. It was having to defend what we are, who we are, and why we do it. Over and over and over.

And here we are again. And a lot lately to newcomers.

Ugh.

Setting boundaries and parameters are not a bad thing. You don't expect Fil-A-Chic to have beer on tap, do you? NO. You go there for a reason. So do I.

They don't apologize for not having BURGERS. And neither should we.

As much as this pains me, but needs to happen, as of Tuesday, August 18, we will be a 21+ DIVE BAR (with elevated bar food of course).

I.e. a date night spot, grab a bite to eat and a few pints, hang out with your buddies on a Tuesday for some pizza. Post some Insta foodie shots with your besties. Yes.

But a RESTAURANT to apologize for not having a bouncy house room and a private dining area for 30, ya' that's not us.

"Let's scream at the servers for not accommodating a massive group of mostly kids for a birthday party, at a BAR!"

Not their fault. We seat 24. Half of it is a bartop. The other half are sofas. Yet they get yelled at on the daily. And I'm over it. It's not their fault.

I've seen people fighting over seating in the sofas cuz they have kids. WTF? 🤷‍♂️ Ya'. I see it all, even from the kitchen.

Not why I did this.

So............................

Just a PSA, as of next Tuesday, we're a 21 and over BAR. Same food. Same staff. Same me. Same love.

A bit of redirect.

Sorry to disappoint some of you, but we can't be EVERYTHING to all. Just gonna stay in my lane. You're welcome to join, just know what you're gettin' into.

"Enjoy the ride."

*and to whomever destroyed one of our corn hole AMERICAN FLAGS, thanks for the settin' me straight. I get it now. I don't care about the corn hole, it's the f*ckin' flag. Not ok.

Thanks to all that came out last night, that was a nice change of pace! I think we'll stick with it.

Got a bit ambitious for the "full menu" and decided to add these two items for Thurs-Sat.

"Mom's ol' school ham balls" & "Brazilian Steak Tacos"

Gonna take me a bit of prep so we're not open tonight, but you can enjoy these two items tomorrow thru Saturday.

See ya' tomorrow @ 4:00.

Time to switch things up..............................

It's time to finally realize this ol' pitching arm needs to be retired to the bullpen before it's to late. "I can still throw some HEAT, just not in the starting weekly rotation. IYKYK.

In order to make this work for ME and YOU, it's time to make some adjustments.

Here they are:

🍕 TAVERN TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY'S🍺
Tuesday's and Wednesday's will be limited bar menu nights, featuring a handful of our favorite appetizers and Chicago Tavern-Style Pizzas.

Translation: slower vibe, good pizza, fun appetizers, cold beer, and maybe some actual face time for ME & YOU. Prepping ridiculously alone Sunday's and Monday's just to get completely smoked on a Tuesday or Wednesday is getting a bit old. I wanna find the reason I still do this. There have been glimmers. So let's just chill for a couple days, K.

Then Thursday hits and we crank the ridiculousness back up.

🔥 THURSDAY • FRIDAY • SATURDAY = FULL THROTTLE
The full menu will be rolling, including all your Dizzy favorites PLUS new stuff, because apparently we’re incapable of leaving well enough alone.

So basically:
Tues/Wed: Pizza. Apps. Beer. Conversation and Company. Don’t overthink it.

Thurs/Fri/Sat: The full monty. "I can still throw hard, but in shorter bursts."

We're also serving from 4-10pm nightly (an extra hour for those lookin' for a later bite to eat). Pro tip: Avoid the line, come in later. IYKYK. 😏

Hopefully this achieves the original "cheers bar" I was originally intending on opening (at least for a couple of days for me) as well as satisfying the "restaurant destination" many of you have come to love.

Thanks for the continued support, let's see if this helps keep me from loosing my d*mn mind.

*too late. maybe it can at least maintain the status quo.

"Enjoy the ride."

**maybe we should just call Tavern Tuesday and Wednesday's "cheese pull fe**sh" nights? 🤷‍♂️ 🤣

"My food's the BEST!"

Said no decent chef EVER.

We ALWAYS question our sh*t, and feel it should be better.

Just sayin'. Right chef's?

If they know they know. And most do. Some are arrogant, self-absorbed and have something to prove. I do too. But it's not the food. Clearly. 🤣 Have you seen my sh*t? Not really Insta-worthy.

At the heart of it all, even the most pretentious, bougie world-class chef knows the reason they truly do it. Can we just share that chef's? 🤷‍♂️ It's not the food. Think about it.

There will never be a Michelin star, James B. award, etc. etc. HERE.

Don't need one.

Cuz' this is WHY we do it.

*channels inner-grandma-energy, just get people 'round the table and everything will work it self out.

Right?

I'll take it.

Recipe:

"how to make SOMETHIN' outta NOTHIN'."

Work your a*z off. Stand for somethin'. Question ALL of it. And still do it. Set timer. Wait.

*ingredients may not be substituted. Requires QUALITY ingredients. And THANKS all for adding to the mix.

*Ding

Sometimes it just turns out.

Follow me for more recipes, or don't.

Either way, "Dinner's ready!"

"Enjoy the ride."

"Gonyer 5"

Throughout history, every timeless physical iconic gesture and move that invaded pop culture had to start somewhere.

The Rocks eyebrow raise. Tiger's fist pump. Hulk Hogan's hand-cupped ear. The Carlton dance. Tom Cruise running at top speed in every movie. And Gangnam style. Ahhh.....good ol' Gangnam style.

The "Gonyer 5" lore:

What should have been a simple and routine anniversary night one late evening 2024, became an organic underground legend.

A few after-dinner drinks, witty banter and time well spent with strangers that became friends produced a gesture that still lives on to this day.

"Ok folks, line up for a quick selfie-to-remember shot."

And then it happened.

Out of no where as the shutter snaps, a hand raise, fingers meaningfully spread, but with little or no effort, as if it was meant to be. And so the "Gonyer 5" was born.

To this very day, many a Dizzy carry on this tradition on their way out, snapping selfies on the sofa with arms extended, palm outward, fingers spread, as if hearkening all those that would pass by to smack hands as hard as humanly possible. Perhaps with a "f*kin A" said silently in their heads. Or most commonly, boisterously out loud.

So next time you're in, feel free to take a selfie on the sofa and give the social media world a "Gonyer 5".

Just make sure to practice. (See photos). It doesn't just come naturally sometimes.

We salute you Rob G! Thank you for inventing the self-photobombing "Gonyer 5".
