Hey everyone—A quick note from one of the owners at OpenFlame Coffee Company + Roastery:
Coffee has been part of our family’s story since the mid-2000s. Before opening OpenFlame in Midwest City in December 2018, we ran a coffee and smoothie cart in Washington at state fairs and events like Bite of Seattle and the Seattle Boat Show. We worked for independent coffee companies and restaurants, and yes—even spent time at the old Sbux in multiple states.
Opening a brick-and-mortar coffee shop was always a dream. We were grateful to make that dream a reality here in Midwest City.
Since opening, we’ve worked through an increasingly crowded market, COVID, supply-chain issues, and rising costs on nearly every product we use. We have fought hard to keep our prices fair while creating a place where people can gather and enjoy a good cup of coffee.
When we opened, a pallet of green coffee typically cost us around $2,000–$3,000. Today, that same coffee costs roughly $8,500–$9,500. The cost of maintaining and operating the shop has continued to rise as well.
After a thorough review of where the company stands, we’ve made the difficult decision to adjust prices across parts of our menu. We’re sharing this because we value honesty with this community and with the regulars we are grateful to serve every day.
Being a small business in Midwest City—especially along North Air Depot—comes with real challenges. We’ve watched many businesses close their doors since we opened. These changes help us continue roasting and serving fresh coffee, supporting our team, and keeping OpenFlame here for the long run.
Midwest City is not just where we opened a business. It’s where we live. It’s home.
Thank you for choosing local, for your grace, and for allowing us to serve you. We’ll be back at it tomorrow, serving a better cup of coffee crafted with you in mind.
