๐ Join us this Sunday for Michigan Cityโs second annual Overdose Awareness event.
The City of Michigan City and community partners will come together Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Helping Our People Excel (HOPE) Community Center, 222 McClelland Ave., for an afternoon of remembrance, education, recovery resources and hope.
Those who would like to participate in our community walk should arrive at HOPE by 2:30 p.m. The short walk to Pullman Park and back will begin at 3 p.m.
Following the walk, attendees are invited to stay for several free activities and resources through 6 p.m.:
๐ CPR training provided by the Michigan City Fire Department
๐ Narcan training provided by Robin Surber of Remembering Alan, Inc. Participants who complete the training will receive two doses of Narcan to take home.
๐ Hope rock painting with the LaPorte County Drug Court Alumni. Paint a rock with a message of encouragement or remembrance to take home or hide somewhere in the community for someone else to find.
๐ A new mobile memorial fence from Remembering Alan, Inc., where community members can attach a customized padlock in memory of a loved one lost to overdose. You are welcome to bring your own lock, or locks and on-site engraving will be available thanks to Amberโs House.
๐ Community resource tables featuring The Salvation Army of Michigan City, We All in Recovery Cafe, Three20 Recovery, Swanson Center, Amberโs House, Ice Breakers, Nest Community Shelter, Remembering Alan, Inc., HOPE Center and the Michigan City Human Rights Commission.
Whether you have lost someone you love, are in recovery, love someone who is, want to learn how to save a life, or simply want to stand with your community, you are welcome.
Together, we remember those weโve lost, support those in recovery and continue building a community rooted in hope. ๐
