What started out as a dream quickly evolved into an idea, which soon developed into a business concept and eventually became a reality. From its central commissary in Miami, Half Moon Empanadas produces its artisanal empanadas, made from scratch, by hand and with the best ingredients. They are then distributed throughout South Florida to their numerous stores located inside Miami International Air

port, Florida International University and University of Miami. Half Moon Empanadas launched its innovative concept in August of 2008, after several years of planning and research. The business is led and operated by its original owners, Pilar Guzman Zavala and Juan Zavala, who aim to expand the brand and spread hand-held satisfaction throughout the country… one empanada at a time. Our artisanal empanadas are delicious and delectable because they are made from scratch, by hand and with best ingredients. From our unique dough-rolling process, to our specially prepared ground beef made with superior cuts of meat, our emphasis on quality, freshness and flavor is manifested every step of the way. Yesterday, in New York City, our CEO and owner, Pilar Guzmán, was honored by the Tory Burch Foundation alongside a group of amazing women founders.

Eighteen years ago, Half Moon was one small store. Today, it’s something much bigger, grown through resilience, hard work, and deep belief.

It’s never just been about empanadas. It’s about creating opportunities for people to grow and build exciting futures of their own.

We’re grateful the Tory Burch team saw in Pilar what we get to see everyday: a force who moves with purpose and leads with heart.
