I have lots of fond memories of Duffy’s Tavern (since 1955) in West Miami.
It’s where I bought my first legal beer after turning 21, and it was also one of the first Mom & Pop spots where I had a cheeseburger that became part of my regular rotation. Over the years, I’ve been there countless times with friends and family for cold beers, bar food, and just hanging out.
So when my Jr. High bud Robert suggested we grab lunch at Duffy’s, he didn’t exactly have to twist my arm.
I got there early because that’s what I do and ordered a Stella. It had been a LONG time since I’d had one, and Rob followed suit when he arrived.
We shared the grilled wings with blue cheese and ranch, Blue Cheeseburger with fries, Sliders with onion rings, and a Chili Dog loaded with chili, onions, and melted cheese. It became pretty obvious that Rob was digging those sliders.
As always, the food hit the spot. But this one was really about sitting down with an old friend, having a couple of beers, and enjoying one of my longtime neighborhood favorites.
Duffy’s Tavern still feels like Miami before Miami tried to get fancy.
