SNEAK PEAK LOCKER UPDATE - 93 lockers are 85% complete. I’m feeling satisfied in our hard work toward reaching the vision.

Since designing and creating La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in 2005 in … it’s been an ongoing dream to create an interactive and deeply immersive brand platform here in the United States. A major component of that dream … was the locker component. Transparently, I’ve struggled throughout the years to get it right, absolutely perfect. I did NOT accomplish it alone.

CIGAR PRESSES - en route to our Family Factory in Wynwood … today … July 24 2026.

In Cuban cigar factories during the 1700’s and 1800’s bunches were formed entirely by hand. If pressure was needed, rollers often used wooden boards, weighted blocks, and stacks of to***co bundles

There was no dedicated “cigar press.” Instead, gravity and simple weights compressed the to***co. As cigar production expanded during the 1800s, this became inefficient and inconsistent.

When multi-cavity wooden molds became common in Havana, manufacturers needed a way to apply even pressure, repeatable pressure, and adjustable pressure.

The answer was adapting the wooden screw press, a technology that had existed for centuries. These presses were similar to those used by cabinet makers and printers.

In the cast-iron era of the late 1800’s, cigar factories in Havana, Key West, Ybor City and New York began using heavy cast-iron presses that featured a cast-iron frame, a large hand wheel, an Acme-style threaded screw and a movable pressure plate.

Today - the cigar press is one of the oldest continuously used pieces of equipment in premium cigar manufacturing, linking today’s factories to the great Havana factories of the nineteenth century.

At JSANN & SON, we made the decision to implement the old-school cast iron press … as opposed to the hydraulic press, the pneumatic press and the air-assisted system.

It just feels right … maybe it’s because I want JD2 to learn how to make ci**rs the old fashioned way … It’s possible that one day we will shift, but for now … this is the plan.

OUR TRADEMARK harkens back to our beginnings in Brooklyn, New York in 1996 in the very earliest days of Drew Estate.

Today, my family and I live just four blocks from the family factory, where we oversee every detail of our manufactory.

The days are hard right now, setting up the business. Preparing my son for the future with the tools necessary to earn an honest living while fine tuning his craft.

People have told me that “someday JD2 will understand,” but I honestly think that he already does.

True pleasure having the “intergalactic to***co explorer” Matt Booth visit us at in Wynwood. There is something really special, very deep, that one feels when you and your family are fighting with every bit of heart and soul to create a new company and vision - and a true friend comes to your home and lifts you up.

As some of you know, J.SANN & SON is under construction in all ways. Creating the family factory of 500 ci**rs per day feels no different than building a manufacturing operation that makes 20,000 or 100,000 or 300,000 per day.

Every morning you wake up with cold sweats, thinking about what’s wrong and what I missed and why a wrapper leaf has not reached soundness, fermentation. Add to it a full build out of a 7,250 sq. ft super club and full kitchen and experiential stage with liquor licenses and all sorts of headaches - and how many sacrifices your nuclear family is forced to make.

, Matt Booth and his Room 101 brand is important to our industry and culture. He’s made a permanent mark in our world of premium ci**rs. Johnny Tobacconaut has landed at JSANN and will be with us daily - smiling, shining, and having fun with my family and all of our guests.

Please follow and send us well-wishes as we fight to make it to the other side. It’s oddly beautiful and painful at the same time. My JD2 believes in his dada and looks forward to meeting you sometime soon.
