Metamora Country Days & Hot Air Balloon Festival is next weekend and it is one of our busiest weekends of the year. If you are planning to dine with us we strongly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Walk ins are always welcome but please expect a wait.

The good news? You can always grab a drink at Metamora General Store while you wait and make a whole afternoon of it. 🍻 We cannot wait to see everyone in town!

This striking oil painting by Metamora native Weatherly Stroh captures a classic early equestrian composition — horses mid-stride with both front and back legs fully extended in dramatic motion. Before high-speed photography, artists relied on observation and imagination to depict movement, and it was commonly believed that galloping horses stretched out like this in flight.

It wasn’t until the late 19th century, when motion studies proved otherwise, that we learned horses actually gather their legs beneath them at full stride. That small inaccuracy makes this style even more fascinating — it reflects not just equestrian sport, but a moment in artistic history when tradition shaped how we understood motion.

A beautiful blend of art, heritage, and the enduring equestrian spirit of Metamora.
