The recently renovated White Horse Inn is now open for business. The legendary spot in Metamora has served as a stop for stagecoaches and trains, a hotel, a brothel, an Underground Railroad stop, and, most recently and once again, a restaurant. Purchased by local restaurateurs in 2013 and undergoing a massive renovation, the multiple-story, white clapboard building, which was built in 1850, has be

en lovingly refurbished to feel similar to an 1800s establishment, but with practical updates. The menu features All-American comfort food with house made soups, sandwiches and entrees for any budget. Casual, but elegant dining is family friendly and can accommodate guests looking for everything from vegetarian to gluten free to wild game selections. The 2nd floor is great for large groups and private parties while the first floor features a large stone fireplace and hearth that is perfect for visiting with friends on a cold winter day.

Look up. Our main dining room chandelier is crafted from antique hay grapples — the very tools once used to lift hay into barn lofts. A true nod to Metamora’s agricultural roots, hanging right above your table.

Metamora Country Days & Hot Air Balloon Festival is next weekend and it is one of our busiest weekends of the year. If you are planning to dine with us we strongly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Walk ins are always welcome but please expect a wait.

The good news? You can always grab a drink at Metamora General Store while you wait and make a whole afternoon of it. 🍻 We cannot wait to see everyone in town!

Not sweet. Not subtle. Not for the faint of heart. Made with Don Julio, Cointreau, fresh lime, and just a pinch of powdered sugar in a salt-rimmed glass. This one is spirit-forward and unapologetic. If you think chain restaurant margaritas are too sweet… this is your drink. You’ve been warned.

There’s still plenty of summer left to savor. ☀️ August is made for patio lunches, evening cocktails, and lingering over dinner with friends. And with glorious September patio weather just around the corner, the best of the season is still ahead.

This striking oil painting by Metamora native Weatherly Stroh captures a classic early equestrian composition — horses mid-stride with both front and back legs fully extended in dramatic motion. Before high-speed photography, artists relied on observation and imagination to depict movement, and it was commonly believed that galloping horses stretched out like this in flight.

It wasn’t until the late 19th century, when motion studies proved otherwise, that we learned horses actually gather their legs beneath them at full stride. That small inaccuracy makes this style even more fascinating — it reflects not just equestrian sport, but a moment in artistic history when tradition shaped how we understood motion.

A beautiful blend of art, heritage, and the enduring equestrian spirit of Metamora.

Some love stories become part of our story, too. 🤍 We were so touched when Alexis shared these beautiful photos from her June wedding day. She and her husband are regular guests at The White Horse Inn, and they chose to stop by on their wedding day to capture a few photos in a place that has become special to them.
