In 2016, through Divine intervention, Roger and Pamela Wald discovered their own Wonderland, in Mentone, Alabama. The area was genuinely perfect for them, but they realized they would need an income to make their dream a reality. With each visit, they met more of Mentone’s people and fell more in love with the area. They came to understand that Mentone “needed” nothing. Undeterred, in 2018 they fo

und what they were looking for: a quaint, recently remodeled home that would make the perfect gathering place! Just like that, dreams became plans, with Alice in Wonderland as their inspiration. Through it all, this quote was ringing through their heads – “The secret, Alice, is to surround yourself with people who make you smile. It is then, and only then, that you’ll find Wonderland.”

Thus, the Café and Country Inn became the reality. It’s a place where people can come together for comforting food (with coffee or tea), and gather with friends, family, or coworkers while relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. Whether you’re celebrating a special day, sharing an occasion, or just want to pray or meditate in one of the many secluded areas on our property, The Café and Country Inn is a place to simply enjoy life

Only in Your State, a national travel site that recently made some “hidden gem” recommendations for adventure seekers throughout the country.

The list is called “The 13 Best Outdoorsy Towns Across the U.S. For Endless Adventurers,” and Mentone, Alabama, was included.

“Mentone sits high on Lookout Mountain in northeastern Alabama and offers unmatched outdoor recreation right out its front door,” Only in Your State says. “DeSoto State Park brings 35 miles of hiking trails, an Olympic-sized pool, and a campground, while nearby Little River Canyon National Preserve boasts one of the deepest canyon systems in the eastern United States."
