Twenty-five years ago, I was a New Yorker.
I grew up in NY. I knew those towers.
September 11, 2001 changed everything. It changed New York. It changed all of us who called that city home.
I think about the people we lost. The first responders who ran toward the smoke when everyone else was running out. The families who have carried that weight every single day for 25 years. The courage that poured out of that city in the days that followed.
That spirit — grit, love, community, showing up for each other — is what I carried with me when I left New York. It's part of why I named this place after my great uncle Vito. It's part of everything we try to do here.
Today we remember. All of them. Always.
We are also quietly marking one year since we opened our doors here in Melbourne. It feels small to mention that today, because this day belongs to something far greater. But if we've managed to bring a little bit of New York's heart to this community over the past year, we hope it honors where we came from.
Never forget. 🇺🇸
