📚 THE TEEN DRAMA DEPARTMENT IS BACK IN SESSION! 📚😂
At the end of the school year, all these kids were telling me:
“I can’t wait to work more!”
“I’ll work all summer!”
“I can pick up extra hours!”
“I’m going to help you out!”
Then summer arrived…
And suddenly, nobody could work because they were all on vacation.
One kid was going to the beach.
Another was traveling somewhere exotic.
Someone else was visiting family and the rest were all headed to some crazy destination.
The point is, all summer long, they were either on vacation, out of town, or “unavailable.”
Then, as summer was coming to an end and school was about to start, they all came back to me saying:
“Now I can work!”
“I’m available again!”
“I can pick up more hours!”
“I’ll be around all the time!”
Me: Fantastic but definitely not convinced!
Then school started…
And wouldn’t you know it happens,
“My parents won’t let me work that much.”
“I have homework.”
“I have football.”
“I have practice.”
“I have a party.”
“I need free time.”
“My teacher gave me too much work.”
“My parents are cranky.”
“My teachers are cranky.”
So basically, everyone can work about one or two days a week now. 🤦🏽♂️
Apparently, the transition from summer vacation to school was more difficult than anyone anticipated.
AND then there’s Ryan… (drumroll please)
Ryan was actually pretty impressive all summer.”!!!
He wasn’t tired.
He worked.
He complained a little… but mostly about the heat.
Then school started.
On his first day back at work, I ask him:
“So Ryan… how was school?”
“It’s OK. BUT wait for it,,,,
I’m tired.”🤨
I said, “YOU HAVE HALF DAYS! HOW THE HELL ARE YOU TIRED?!”
He goes:
“I don’t know… maybe I stayed up too late?”
Me,: Oh really?
So now I’m curious…
What exactly were you doing all night?
Studying?
Talking to girls?
Working on some groundbreaking scientific research?
Writing your senior thesis?
Solving world hunger?
His answer?
“I don’t know… I’m just tired. School started and I work all the time.”
🤨🤨🤨
ALL THE TIME?!
This kid works about 14 hours a week.
FOURTEEN.
Hours.
A.
Week.
And apparently that’s enough to qualify as a full-time career now. 😂🤦♂️
Meanwhile, I’m sitting here trying to figure out if these kids are driving me crazy…
or if it’s the parents…
because I’m pretty sure their parents were working a whole lot more at their age.
Soda shop.
Movie theater.
Restaurant.
Farm.
Whatever job they could get their hands on.
And somehow they survived without a cell phone, a parking pass, three vacations and a personal assistant.
😂😂😂
Anyway end of my rant:
Welcome back to school, kids.
Get your homework done.
Get some sleep.
Stop complaining.
And for God’s sake, somebody please tell Ryan…
