Knock knock. Who’s there? Ranger. Ranger who? ranger_the_barhorse, that’s who… 😆 We had us a special visitor yesterday afternoon, Ranger and his buddy Raven stopped by the Barlor for a refreshing hot weather snack. You see, horses like PupperNutter too, our frozen peanut butter and banana doggy treats! Always so much fun to serve them, many thanks to thebarhorses for droppin’ by, we love their company and they always make an otherwise ordinary day extraordinary… 🤠

The full force of Summer has returned to DFW with temperatures climbing back into the triple digits today and for the rest of the week too. Mostly full sun every day but there always that 10% chance of afternoon thundershowers hangin’ around in the background. Friday is lookin’ fine for live music with the Nitty Gritty Jazz Band Duo!

Sweet frozen treats are gonna be the order of the week and we got a whole bunch ready for ya! Beat this Summer heat whenever it gets to be a bit much with a big cup of the boozy goodness or an ice cold crafty cocktail from the bar! We’re open daily from noon till 10:00 and to 11:00 on Friday and Saturday night. Sunday is the only day we close a bit earlier at 8:00. Y’all stay cool this week and we’ll hope to see you and maybe even a few horses too in the best downtown in Collin County, Historic Downtown McKinney… 😁

Your Sunday sundae today features a little bit of Christmas in July and a flavor I have a feelin’ Gabby, making this here video, is gonna like! Need me some ginger whiskey infused “Gingerbread, Man” (note the comma… 😆) ice cream topped with hot caramel fudge, sprinkled with Heathbar crumbles, drenched in bourbon vanilla whipped cream and finished with a cherry as always for good luck… 🍒

Sunday scripture: Acts 12:18 KJB… “Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.”

Understandably, the soldiers keeping guard over Peter in the prison were shocked to find him missing come the morning.

Acts 12:19 KJB… “And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode.”

Herod came looking for Peter and finding him not, had his guards summarily executed. Herod is that powerful, that cunning, that cold. Not for much longer however. He travels to Cessarea where he is met by those of Tyre and Sidon also out of favor with him.

Acts 12:21-22 KJB… “And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.”

It is Herods attitude during the crowds reaction to his speech which dooms him, for he is only a man; he accepts man’s worship himself, not giving glory to the Most High God.

Acts 12:23 KJB… “And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.”

God puts him to an immediate and grizzly death. Our Father will not be mocked and His word does not return void.

Galatians 6:7 KJB… “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

The news clearly spreads quickly…

Acts 12:24 KJB… “But the word of God grew and multiplied.”

…as foretold of old.

Isaiah 55:11 KJB… “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

The weekend’s in full swing here in downtown McKinney on this splendid Saturday afternoon/evening! Did y’all know July is National Ice Cream Month and July 19’th in particular is National Ice Cream Day? Well, it sure is and we got some fun stuff to give away in celebration! Just follow the simple instructions on this here video, enjoy some of our delicious ice cream and celebrate with us, especially Sunday on National Ice Cream Day… 😁

A nice mix of sun and clouds today, warmer than yesterday with highs up around 96 degrees before cooling back down to a low of 78 overnight. More of the same for National Ice Cream Day tomorrow. We’ll be back up into triple digits by Monday so enjoy this brief respite from the dog days of Summer while they last!

Ice cream is loved the world over, how do we turn National Ice Cream Day into International Ice Cream Day? Sounds like something the UN oughta consider; better than the mischief they’re usually up to… 😉 At least we pay ice cream the respect it deserves here in America The Beautiful! Join us all weekend long and celebrate the amazing creation that ice cream actually is!

It’s been a rainy week, yes it has and our musical guests this evening are clearly prepared… 😆 Fonzy & Ariana are ready to rumble and so are we; happy Friday friends, join us this evening as these two super talented singer/songwriters do the thing they do so well, sing wonderful songs and tell wild stories! Come on in, grab a table and don’t be late, the first set starts at 8:00… 🤠

I’m thinkin’ we’re not gonna see much rain up here today even though it’s a cloudy start, all y’all can ditch the foul weather gear... 😉 That sun should break out by lunchtime and warm the day up to just over 90 degrees. A fine Summer weekend in store with lots of sun and temps rising back up into the triple digits by Monday/Tuesday… 🥵

The rain has been particularly brutal down in hill country where extreme flooding has once again devastated homes along the riverbanks. Prayers for all those affected and for those rescue teams working overtime saving lives and property just a few hours south of here. Godspeed to one and all especially the Cajun Navy 2016 down there doing all they can. If anyone can do more than pray, this is an amazing all volunteer group to help in any way you may.

Very fortunately for us the times are good up here in DFW and we got us a mighty fine weekend shapin’ up! Let’s be thankful that we have the weekend to enjoy and enjoy it while we can! And, if you can’t make it to the Barlor tonight, catch Mark and Ariana tomorrow night in Lewisville at Larue Winery; or, even better, be at both venues and enjoy their music for two nights in a row… 😊

07/16/2026

There’s somethin’ so sweet and fine about an ice cold milkshake in the Summertime! Here at the Barlor they come in over 100 different flavors and our patrons over the age of 21 have the option to make their shakes extra boozy with a little help from our full service bar… 😁 Of course non-boozy shakes are available as well for younger guests and those who prefer not to indulge for whatever reason!

Kinda cloudy out this morning and there’s a few spotty showers floatin’ around our area. My weather app says we have a 50% chance of rain but the radar map suggests less. We shall see. More importantly, our forecast looks great for Live Music Friday and the very talented Ariana Ortiz Music along with Mark Lafon Music too… 🤠

We’ll be back up over 100 degrees by Monday of next week so enjoy this brief respite from Summer heat while it lasts! It is Friday Eve after all and the perfect day to “pre-game” the weekend schedule… 😉 Mosey on by for milkshakes if the spirit moves ya and make the most of that milkshake by adding a little magic sauce to mellow ya out some… 😆 Y’all have a wonderful day today and I’ll holler atcha again when the weekend begins!

Another refreshing Summer sipper here on a Karaoke Wednesday, join the Krew for great songs and Chiltons all night long! “What’s a Chilton?” you ask; lemme tell ya, “it’s Western Son Vodka Blueberry with lemon juice in a tall glass over ice topped with Topo Chico.” A wonderful drink for Kocktails and Karaoke so come on in a sing a few bars in the Barlor tonight at 7:00… how’s about a little Mungo Jerry, “In The Summertime” to get us started, hit it boys… https://youtu.be/wvUQcnfwUUM?si=GCKgtV-hPAh6cCj0 😎

A similar day today as we had yesterday, perhaps a degree or two warmer with a low chance of passing afternoon thundershowers. More of the same tomorrow and Live Music Friday is lookin’ fine as we welcome back the wonderful duo of Ariana Ortiz Music and Mark Lafon Music too… 🤠

It’s gonna be a good time singalong and you don’t wanna miss it; every Wednesday night is karaoke night at the Barlor. Sing our song of the day and getchoo a free drink of the day, a Chilton! Now that’s a deal that can’t be beat… 😉 We’ll look forward to seeing and hearing YOU tonight as we turn the audio system over to you and you call the tunes, at least till closin’ time at 10:00… 😁

One of these is sure tasty on a hot Summer day, a Peach Bourbon Smash as featured on our specialty seasonal menu. Made by combining your choice of bourbon (Tami chose Buffalo Trace for this one), sweet peach syrup with a dash of lemon juice shaken vigorously, then topped with spicy ginger beer over ice in a rocks glass and garnished with a candy peach ring. That’s quite a mouthful! Yes please, Tami!

Kinda overcast this morning with a 30% chance of an afternoon thunderstorm but we might see some breaks of sunshine too. Mild for mid July our high temp of the day at only 84 degrees. Nice break from the typical Texas heat! A bit warmer each day with a low possibility of very scattered showers till we hit our gorgeous 90 degree Live Music Friday featuring Ariana Ortiz Music and Mark Lafon Music!

It’s a fine week to be outdoors as Summer takes its break during our Summer break… 😆 The grass grew quick with Sundays rain and cooler temps, mowing will happen soon, then August will hit and our lawns will take a break too! If you need a break, come see us at the Barlor for crafty cocktails like the Bourbon Peach Smash, a Not Your Fathers Root Beer Float or just a cup-o-somethin’ yummy from the freezer! Summertime is Cocktail Creamery time all the time, on every level… 😎

Attention all you event planners out there, we got us a new smaller mobile ice cream freezer! Great for all the same types of things our larger unit is capable of… but a bit less formal, maybe even a bit more fun, a bit less expensive, and a whole lot easier for this old dude to move around… 😉 If you wanna spice up your gathering, be it for business, pleasure or any combination of the two, the addition of boozy ice cream sure does the trick! Email Sharyn directly from the CocktailCreamery.com website anytime for inspiration and pricing information.

The rain sure came down early this morning but most of it has passed us by and left much cooler temperatures in its wake. I’ll take that all Summer long, thank you very much! A fine day shaping up with highs a very comfortable 83 degrees and overnight lows 10 below that. A moderate chance of pop-up afternoon showers the next few days but those temps stay under 90 till Friday rolls around when Ariana Ortiz Music and Mark Lafon Music return to play our night away!

It sure was a fun weekend just past but Monday happens every time one goes by… make the best of this Monday by taking advantage of the nice break in Summer heat to come and enjoy our hometown downtown square! Swing by the Barlor if you get a chance and enjoy a crafty cocktail, somethin’ sweet from our freezers or even a combination of the two; we can do that too… 😁 And give your circle of groovy people an event to remember by having either one of our boozy ice cream carts there at your next get together!

How’s about something a bit different for a Sunday sundae today… a Sunday Root Beer Float! Start with a tasty Not Your Fathers Root Beer and pour on top of some root beer schnapps infused “Root Beer Vanilla Floatilla” ice cream, top with bourbon vanilla whipped cream and a cherry as always for good luck… 🍒

Sunday scripture: Acts 12:12 KJB… “And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.”

An angel of the Lord breaks Peter out of jail and when he realizes he’s not dreaming, heads directly to the home of Mary where he knows his brethren to be and knocks at the door.

Acts 12:13-14 KJB… “And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda. And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.”

Rhoda answers that knock and has trouble believing her ears as to who it is that’s knocking. Stunned at the sound of Peter’s voice from a man she knows to be locked away in prison, she runs back to the gathered Hebrew saints leaving Peter outside.

Acts 12:15 KJB… “And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.”

The group of them doubt her sincerity, they too know Peter is locked up and think, it must be his ghost!

Acts 12:16 KJB… “But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.”

How many miraculous things have these folks witnessed and they are still astonished seeing Peter in the flesh, escaped from prison? And people today want miracles still; that God would prove Himself to them…

Acts 12:17 KJB… “But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.”

This final sentence: “and he departed, and went to another place” is the last we hear from Peter for many years, until he’s needed to confirm among the Hebrews Gods blessing of the Gentiles via Paul.

Just when you think you’ve found that next perfect employee, our super-secret spy camera network capture the following; who knew Gabby was such a little sneak… 😆 Totally kidding of course, Gabby is the perfect employee and she’s dang good at making these little videos too! Be sure to say hello to her next time y’all want a scoop of the boozy goodness… 😁

It’s a fine Summer Saturday today, not quite as hot as it has been that last few days, only 98 degrees for a high. Yeah, that’s still pretty hot but some relief is on the way. We’ll likely see some rain tomorrow and Monday as slightly cooler air begins to filter in, the thermometer only rising to 92 degrees both days.

Our Saturday night looks to be an absolute Summer stunner so get on out there and find you some fun! Of course y’all can find a lot of fun right here at the Barlor… 😉 Just do us a favor and keep an eye out for Gabby sneakin’ snacks behind our backs… 🤣 Hope y’all have a wonderful day today and a fine evening too and enjoy the “Sunday Scripture” trip through the book of Acts I’ve been working on all year, with probably another year to go to reach the end of the tale… 😊

That graphic just about says it all y’all; Wooden Nickel TX is three remarkable guitar players and three harmonious voices, combined with the timeless tunes we all know and love. What it doesn’t say is that we got ‘em here at the Barlor tonight and that’s what I’m here to do… 😁 Happy Live Music Friday friends, the wild Texas weekend is only hours away! Come on in, grab a table and don’t be late, the first set starts at 8:00… 🤠

It’s gonna be a whole two degrees cooler today than it was yesterday but that don’t mean much when our temps are in the triple digits now does it? Highs gettin’ up to 100 today and droppin’ down to 80 overnight. Two degrees cooler again tomorrow with plenty of sunny skies but changes comin’ Sunday, runnin’ into next week; highs only in the low 90’s with some rain headin’ our way but that’s alright with us, we could use a good soakin’ on a Monday!

Till then, we got us a hot time in downtown McKinney all weekend long, yes we do, and if you’re lookin’ for a hot time too, you done found it! Crafty cocktails, boozy ice cream and good old time rock and roll comin’ atcha live all night long! The weekend starts here, the weekend starts now and the big fun starts when YOU get downtown! Hope to see all y’all well before this weekend is through… 😊

What’s that Gabby has in her hands? Looks to be a bottle of one of my favorite sippin’ whiskeys, Eagle Rare Bourbon! And, lemme tell ya, it made one heckuva good gallon of Killer Vaniller D’Extra! Aged no less than 10 years in select oak casks the bourbon has a warming, nuanced and long finish with impressions of baking spices, caramel and dark fruit. This one’s gonna go fast so come and getchoo some while supplies last… 😁

Another hot one out there today. Surprise! Not. It’s July in Texas, what else do we expect? Temps reaching up to the triple digits in DFW we’ll see highs of 102 before the day is through… 🥵 Just a bit cooler for Live Music Friday (but not much) when the three guitars of Wooden Nickel TX come to play… 🤠

Y’all need to stay cool out there today and we’re just the place to help ya do it, and be sure to drink plenty of cold beer to stay hydrated, we got that too… 😉 We’re kinda like your one stop Summer shop for all things cool… 😎 We all know boozy ice cream is the coolest! Y’all be cool today too and I’ll holler atcha again with more cool news tomorrow… 😊

Here we find ourselves smack dab in the middle of the work week and that means it’s time for “Kocktails and Karaoke”! Join the Krew and sing some too tonight startin’ at 7:00 and runnin’ right through closin’ time at 10:00. And since we just celebrated Americas 250’th birthday, how about one from Simon and Garfunkel, hit it boys… https://youtu.be/Eo2ZsAOlvEM?si=B1gOx5nCeZvz1I9r 🇺🇸

Hot, hot, hot is another song that would work for today, it’s hot out there! Lots of sun and a high up at 98 degrees coolin’ off only to 81 overnight. More of the same as we look to the weekend and Live Music Friday with the always excellent Wooden Nickel TX!

Tonight however is the night we turn the audio system over to you and you call the tunes! Sing your version of “America” and claim a free drink at the bar… 😁 It’s a good night for a couple drinks and a good time singalong too, so we’ll look forward to seeing you there on the square tonight and every Wednesday night, at your friendly neighborhood karaoke Ice Cream Barlor… 😊

It’s so hot out there even the beer needs help stayin’ cold, and we gotcha covered if your beer comes in a can or a bottle, yes we do! Next time you find yourselves at the Barlor pick up a Cocktail Creamery Koozie, only $3 bucks each, or grab two for $5… ain’t that a deal!?! One koozie will keep a whole bunch of beers cold, with another you can help keep your buddies beer cold too, and that’s just what friends are for… 😁

Similar day today to what we had yesterday; highs up in the mid 90’s with mostly sunny skies. A 30% chance of afternoon thundershowers as the thermometer peaks. We’ll warm up a degree each day till we hit triple digits on Live Music Friday when the three guitars of Wooden Nickel TX comes back to town!

In case you was wonderin’, and I know you was, July happens to be National Ice Cream Month and to celebrate we’re givin’ away nice little Cocktail Creamery ice cream bowls and spoons! Sharyn will put a stamp on the bottom of several random paper cups and if you just happen to be lucky enough to get one, you’ll be eating your ice cream in some official Cocktail Creamery swag from now on… 😆 Happy National Ice Cream Month and good luck to one and all!

A little rain took us by surprise yesterday and there’s a bit more in the forecast for this afternoon too. Once that air heats up to a 95 degree high it gets testy, shall we say… 40% testy. Those showers shouldn’t last too long and maybe they’ll even cool things off some too… 🤞 Other than that, it’s mostly sunny, hot and we’ll see more of the same tomorrow. Friday’s looking fine for live music with the three guitars of Wooden Nickel TX!

We sure hope y’all had a whole bunch of fun over this Fourth of July weekend! Downtown McKinney always does things right and this year was no exception. It’s a brand new week of Summertime fun however and we got groovy ice cream bowls to give away, so come see us there on the square and win yourself a bowl while you’re havin’ yourself a ball at YOUR friendly neighborhood Ice Cream Barlor… 😊

07/05/2026

Need us a red white and blue Sunday sundae today, let’s pick some flavors that represent our flag… 🇺🇸 Strawberry Dreams Forever (red), Killer Vaniller (white) and Blueberry Cheesecake (blue)! Add some strawberry topping, marshmallow sauce, smother with bourbon vanilla whipped cream and finish with a cherry as always for good luck… 🍒

Sunday scripture: Acts 12:7 KJB… “And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.”

Imagine Peter surrounded by guards, chained up and yet somehow still sleeping! The angel (messenger of light) of the Lord shows up out of nowhere and gives Peter a smack on the side to wake him and get his attention. Immediately, the chains fall from his hands yet the guards do not notice.

Acts 12:8 KJB… “And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.”

Peter quickly dresses, puts on his shoes and follows the angel out of the prison.

Acts 12:9 KJB… “And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.”

Peter’s thinking to himself, “I must be dreaming…” until he comes to the main gate of the prison.

Acts 12:10 KJB… “When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.”

The gate opens and allows Peter an escape into the city. The angels work here is finished. Peter now knows he’s not dreaming.

Acts 12:11 KJB… “And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.”

Little does Peter know that this will be the last time he’s visited by supernatural beings; that his time actively participating in Biblical history is coming soon to an end. He takes a moment to gather his thoughts.

Happy Fourth of July friends, what a great day to celebrate the independent spirit of America… 🇺🇸 It’s gonna be a big day in downtown McKinney today with the Red, White and Boom parade around the square and the block party over on Louisiana Street afterwards. We’ll have our mobile ice cream unit available there just for kicks but y’all know to come see us on Virginia for the ultimate selection of boozy goodness… 😉 There will be fireworks tonight at Towne Lake Park for anyone interested in heading over there after dark. For those whose center of gravity is the center of McKinney, our beautiful hometown downtown square, we’ll be open till 11:00 as per usual for ya… 😊

Mostly sunny and hot is the forecast for today with a high up at 97 degrees and just a slight 10% chance of an afternoon pop-up thundershower or two… not much to worry about at this point with more of the same scheduled for tomorrow. Late Sunday into early Monday those chances rise to 30% but by that time this amazing weekend will be but a memory!

We hope all y’all have a really fun day today with family, friends and fireworks too! Alcohol and gunpowder is a fun combination, just don’t get too carried away if’n ya know what I mean… 😆 The local ER doesn’t need our business this evening! America is an amazing country with Texas in particular being the best part in my not so humble opinion. It’s the people that make the place and there are none better than Texas people! Enjoy this weekend friends and let’s keep Texas free… 🤠
