The community fundraiser launched by Hampton resident Patrick Palmer to help families with school lunch debt has now raised more than $14,000 in less than a week.
According to Palmer, an $11,000 payment was delivered to the school Wednesday, with additional funds still being collected.
The fundraiser began after Palmer shared a personal story about being embarrassed over a school lunch issue as a child. Since then, hundreds of donors have contributed to the effort.
North Iowa Free Press was among the first outlets to report on the fundraiser and has continued to provide updates as funds are raised and distributed.
We’re following the fundraiser and reporting the facts.
Palmer said he plans to continue providing updates on funds raised and funds distributed.
