To our amazing community and supporters-

Some of our county reps had a meeting with Liberty today and it went really well!!!!! This is in huge part due to your support, sharing, and ultimately caring deeply about the little guys….and that is truly invaluable!

On behalf of all the businesses in Markleeville, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! For all the attention and offers to help and sharing and reaching out to others!

We do not take your support and actions for granted, it is such a great feeling to know we have so many amazing people in our corner 🥹🙏🏽 ☕️ 👏🏽

Thank you to our local reps and county supervisors that stepped up and went to bat for our sweet community!!! 😃😃😃

With that being said, we’ll be open Saturday!!!!!! Please come grab a coffee and hang out with us 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Good news to report. Liberty agreed to cancel all Saturday outages after the incredible response from our community. They are reviewing the schedule and it is looking like outages will be moved to midweek to minimize impacts. They will be sending out notification to all customers shortly. Nice work everyone.

We really didn’t want to post this but we feel we don’t have a choice at this point.

PSA-Liberty Utilities plans to turn off Markleeville’s power 3 x Saturdays in a row. One of those days is Kirkwoods last and the start of fishing season.

Saturdays continue to be Markleeville’s busiest day. Small businesses NEED Saturdays right now…there are hotel rooms booked and full, bands scheduled, we have product being delivered on Friday and will not be able to open for business. The work is planned from 7am-6pm. We can’t open at all and this impacts every other small business in our town…Stone Fly, Cutthroat, Creekside Inn, The General Store, East Carson Resort, etc.

Liberty is claiming that they need to do the work on Saturdays because they don’t want to close the school during the week- BUT the school has generators AND the school is on spring break next week…they can do the work then.

We called and talked to those we could in the county, we called Liberty Utilities and explained the situation in depth to them (many times) but they have no plan to change the work and ran us around in circles with no care that they could potentially put us out of business. It is plain WRONG. It is so wrong. And as of now we don’t know where to go from here….

If anyone who reads this works for Liberty Utilities and has any care in the world for our town and community, PLEASE encourage the head of operations (or whoever is in charge) to reschedule.

If anyone who reads this represents Markleeville in any way and can put a stop to this and reschedule, please do it. OUR CITY COUNCIL SHOULD BE ABLE TO PUT A STOP TO THIS…do it for the love of our town and businesses that struggle to keep doors open as it is during the slow season.

And for everyone~ please forward this on to anyone who can make a change and get this information out there. The more of us who call and advocate, the better 🙏🏽

PS- Liberty has done this to us before and when we inquired about loss of income they told us to complete a form for reimbursement….we did that and they denied us within an hour of us emailing it to them. They don’t care. It’s truly heartbreaking that a big company like this can continue to make these decisions without any accountability. 💔

What is Kava?! Kava is a ceremonial drink that has been used in the South Pacific Islands FOREVER to uplift mood, bond, relax, and to celebrate 🙌🏽😌✨

Some of you may think of Kava in a coconut shell tasting super rootsy and a bit like dirt….the products we carry are YUMMY, come in a convenient can, and are a bit unconventional and we are here for it!!

Kava is a healthy alternative to alcohol and until we get our beer and wine license (in progress) we LOVE that we can offer a fun drink to unwind with your lunch! 😎

After much consideration we have decided to close today- Saturday, March 2nd- out of an abundance of caution for our staff. We plan to be open tomorrow unless this blizzard changes course but today seems to be the peak. Please hunker down, stay off roads, stay warm, and stay safe 🌬️☃️❄️
