‼️Long post ahead.. If you dont read anything, I ask you to please read below the red X’s atleast..‼️

Hey Everyone. It’s Jimmy’s youngest daughter or his “babygirl” as he would always call me, Alexis… Many of you know me but, I know most of you dont. As most of you may have seen or heard, our family at Faraway Places have all experienced great tragedy within the last year. I wasn’t going to speak on this on here but theres a tug that won’t let go of me & I’m not the best at saying things like this but here I go…

Back in November, my aunt who many of you know of as “Toy” passed away. She worked behind the scenes at the restaurant for many years and also worked for the City of Meridian for several years as well. This was Grandmother’s sister.

Then, a little over a month later, on December 21 we lost our beloved restaurant due to an electrical fire. After COVID-19 hit she was forced to shut the doors and they stayed that way from February 2020-May 2024. We had only been reopened for hardly 7 months. She built this business from the ground up after moving to America in the 1970’s. This buisness was one of her greatest achievements. She was unbelievably proud of what she’d built and had SO much love for the family and friends she’d gained over the years of doing business. Our entire family grew up in this restaurant and all of us (& I do mean ALL of us) have worked in there helping her run it at some point in time. Along with the tragedy of my aunt and then this, everyone was left absolutely devastated.

Now, in September, we’d been given a little break and all recuperated from everything. My daddy has passed and we’re all shaken up from this. I still haven’t completely processed what’s happened. My sister and I lost our daddy, my grandmother has now lost her second and only son left here on this earth, and my aunts have lost their little brother.

So in conclusion, in the past 10 months we’ve lost not one but two family members who were so dear to all of us and we’ve lost our restaurant. Don’t forget back in 2018 we suffered the loss of my uncle, BB as well.

A Public Celebration of Life for Toy and Jimmy will be held at a later date whenever my aunt is able to fly back in from her home. She flew out two days before dad passed. Further details will come as I’m able to release them.
Until then, all I ask of those who love our family is to keep the memories of BB, Toy, & Dad alive for the years to come. If you have ANY old pictures from your time in the restaurant or with any of the family, I ask for you not to hesitate to share them. Tell us the great stories about our family members for all of us family and friends to read back on. Please put these in the comments or you can message my personal page (Alexis Britain) with them. I’ll start with a story in the comments somebody sent me yesterday about my dad❤️

Thank you for all the love you’ve shown us over the years! We have created a forever family with so many people we cherish that have watched or stood by our side over the years. Please continue to pray to whatever higher power you believe in for our entire family.✨

I’ve attached an OLD picture thats missing quite a few people and I’m looking for even more that has any of our family in it.

Thank you again for everything. We love and appreciate each and every one of you.

Trying to create a website dedicated to expanding the way we provide food (& friendship) to our community. I've never done this kind of thing before and even after watching videos and tutorials, I'm still so lost when it comes to designing the pages, putting up links, and plugins and webhosting.... I'm really just trying to keep the ball rolling by making a platform where you can preorder food for us to cook and deliver to you. I would also like to have a spot where you can get online and reserve a date and time where we can come to your home and teach how to make some dishes off of our menu.
I've already paid for a domain name and a(I think it's called)webhost....but after two days fumbling around on it... I still have no idea what I'm doing.
I was hoping that someone on here, who loves Faraway Places, would be familiar with this kind of stuff and could help me out a bit. Maybe they would let me pay them in eggrolls or something.

Until I get this figured out the only way you can get our food is to call. If anyone is interested in delivery or taking a class, call me. Or maybe even someone is interested in something we have not thought of yet, if so, call us. We are interested in your thoughts and ideas. For the record....this is Brittany and Vanessa and our number is 769-317-0813 looking forward to serving you in the future

Help Faraway Places After Fire!

Please give anything you can:
https://gofund.me/102f0da2

We're devastated to say that our family-owned restaurant, Faraway Places, was severely damaged by fire yesterday, leaving us with no choice but to start from scratch. Faraway Places was the 1st Thai restaurant in MS, and we moved from College Park to Downtown (where Aie's is now) before finally settling in beautiful Marion, MS. We have loved serving you and making memories for the last 40 years together. Today, we're sad to have to ask for the help of our wonderful community.

Yesterday morning, Saturday, December 21st, 2024, a space heater malfunctioned and started an electrical fire that quickly grew out of control. The Fire Dept came, but the best that could be done was to get everyone out safely. The restaurant will need to be rebuilt from the ground up, and we have no insurance since the initial loan was paid off years ago.

We're reaching out to our community for help in rebuilding our business. We're facing an uphill battle with no insurance coverage and limited resources. Any amount donated will go directly towards:
• Paying off outstanding debts
• Covering living expenses while we rebuild
• Rebuilding and reopening Faraway Places

Thank you,

This is Tim at Faraway Places,
and this is the official business account and GoFundMe.
