PARKERSBURG, W.Va. WTAP is partnering with local businesses for WTAP Cares Food Drive for Kids.
The food drive’s second drop off day will be June 6th.
People can go to the different sponsor locations and drop off kid-friendly, non-perishable food items.
Unfortunately, not every child will have a meal waiting for them when they leave school and head home. This fact is emphasized in the summer when kids won’t get the one meal a day they rely on from the schools.
The food collected in this drive will help stock the pantries at local schools that provide food packs to children in need after school and over the weekend.
There will be other dates throughout the year for the food drive, to make children will have food throughout the year. These dates include August 8th and November 7th.
Drop off locations include:
Sunset Memorial Funeral Home - 1934 Dupont Rd, Parkersburg, WV
WV Central Credit Union - 1306 Murdoch Ave, Parkersburg, WV; 809 Division St, Parkersburg, WV; 1701 Grand Central Ave, Vienna, WV
Gogg’s HVAC - 5349 Dupont Rd, Parkersburg, WV
Kid-friendly, non-perishable items include things such as granola bars, crackers, juice boxes, mac and cheese cups, apple sauce, snack packs, soup cans with pull tabs, fruit cups, poptarts.
Remember, the items should not require a lot of preparation or extra ingredients because the child may have to make it for themselves.
Dwight Ullman, with Sunset Funeral Home, said the first drop off day was a success and is hoping this day will be able to be even better.
Ullman said he was thankful for the veterans that helped pickup the donations last time. He said they also helped sort and deliver the items as well.
