Earlier this year, restaurant owner Ray Leotta decided to add an eyebrow-raising cocktail to the “House Favorites” drink menu at Tideline, Margate’s newest bayside restaurant. The drink is a fitting addition to the splashy 240-seat waterfront destination, which spans multiple floors, offers stunning sunset views, and provides full service to boats and Jet Skis docked at its slips.
Called the Liquid Asset, the drink consists of top-shelf tequila, a large ice cube, and a red chili pepper — for the hefty price of $1.1 million.
That’s because this summer sipper comes with a custom-built 39-foot speedboat. The cocktail-and-a-boat concept came to Leotta during a 3 a.m. brainstorm.
Given the Shore’s bustling market for luxury boats, he thought the pairing would be a fun offering for local buyers. If he gets any takers, Leotta plans to bring the promotion back every summer.
“These boats are all custom-tailored, so they take more than a year and a half to build,” he said. “That’s another reason people are interested, because you can skip the line and you don’t have to wait.”
A year ago, Leotta reached out to Cigarette Racing, a Miami-based boat builder specializing in luxury performance boats. The company connected him with its New Jersey dealer to commission the custom speedboat. Finished in Tideline’s signature blue-and-gray color scheme, the boat is currently in production and is expected to arrive in mid-August. Guests can scan a QR code on the drink menu to view renderings.
If someone purchases the “cocktail,” they’ll be presented with a contract outlining the boat purchase, its custom features, the engraved bottle of Clase Azul Gold tequila, and, of course, the cocktail itself.
