A Message From Our Family at Country Boy Restaurant
Being part of a small community comes with so many blessings. We know one another, we support one another, and in many ways, we are family; but one of the difficult sides of a small community is that information, and sometimes misinformation, can travel quickly. Unfortunately, rumors can have a very real impact on small businesses, the families behind them, and the people who depend on those businesses for their livelihoods.
When we purchased Country Boy Restaurant in 2024, we closed for a week so we could make the changes necessary to bring the restaurant up to the current codes and health standards required of us as new owners.
Some of those changes were easy to see. We changed the tables, painted the back area, cleaned the fryers, cleaned the restaurant from top to bottom, and removed the overhead menu.
Other changes happened behind the scenes. We changed the way food was stored and handled in our coolers (including covering food items), kitchen, and storeroom. These changes weren't made because we wanted to change Country Boy. As new owners, we were required to meet current health codes and standards, including requirements that differed from those the previous ownership had operated under. More importantly, we wanted to provide a clean and safe environment for both our customers and our employees.
Over the past two years, we've heard several rumors about Country Boy, and we would like to clear up a few things.
1. Our commitment to cleanliness has not changed. We strive every day to provide a clean and healthy environment for our customers and employees. Are we perfect? No. No restaurant or business is. If you ever see or experience something that doesn't meet the standard you expect from us, please tell us. Let the employees know immediately. Give us the opportunity to address it and make it right.
We are aware that the tables have a sticky feel to them. One of the cleaners has stripped the coating off the real wood tables and we are currently working on a solution. We can assure you they are cleaned.
2. The cooks you know are still here. The same cooks who prepared your food under the previous ownership are still the ones preparing it today.
3. We have worked hard to preserve the food Country Boy has been known for. We continue to use the same recipes, suppliers, and cooking procedures that were passed on to us by the previous owners. Our fish is still USA farm-raised. Our shrimp and oysters are Gulf caught… and because we've heard this one in particular, the chicken recipe has not changed.
We did recently identify an error in the preparation process that could have affected the consistency and flavor of our chicken. Once we identified what was happening, we corrected it. The recipe itself was never changed. If you've noticed lately that the chicken tastes more like the Country Boy chicken you remember, that's why. If it’s still not what you expect, let us know!
4. We want to acknowledge that we listen when our customers tell us something isn't quite the same. We aren’t mad at you. We welcome your feedback. We aren't going to dismiss those concerns. We will investigate them, figure out what's happening, and do our best to fix it.
We also know that sometimes incorrect information can come from places you wouldn't expect, including from within a business. We can't always control what someone says, but we can control how we respond.
So we're asking something simple from our community:
If you hear something about Country Boy that doesn't sit well with you, please ask us.
If your food isn't right, tell us.
If you've heard something that concerns you, ask us.
If there's something you think we could do better, let us know.
We would much rather have a conversation with you than lose a customer, a friend, or a neighbor because of something that may not be true, or because of an issue we were never given the opportunity to fix.
Owning a small business isn't just about the people whose names are on the paperwork. It affects our employees and their families, too. Every person who walks through our doors, orders a plate to go, tells a friend about us, or chooses to give us another chance helps keep a local business going and local people working.
To everyone who has supported Country Boy over these past two years: thank you. We truly appreciate you.
We know we won't always get everything perfect, but we can promise that we care, we're listening, and we're willing to work to make things right.
Our doors are open, and so is our inbox. We welcome your feedback and your questions. If you have a concern about a specific experience or order, please send us a private message so we can speak with you directly and have the opportunity to address it.
Thank you for supporting Country Boy Restaurant, our employees, and the families behind this small business!
