Happy Lantern Festival! 🏮🏮 These are tangyuan 湯圓 or glutinous rice balls filled with black sesame - traditional, mochi-like, chewy, soft dumplings made from glutinous rice flour, usually filled with sweet pastes like black sesame or red bean. They are often served in hot broth and symbolize family unity and prosperity during the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunisolar Chinese calendar, during the full moon, marking the end of Chinese New Year.

This is Flannery Berry She is one of our lead somms. Say 👋🏼 next time you’re at Tolo.

Flannery is from Wellfleet, MA - “where the best oysters are from!!!” 🦪 She is learning how to knit🧣 and recommends drinking the Vollenweider Riesling with anything at Tolo.

Here are Joyce’s dumplings - filled with Berkshire pork and dill. We eat jiaozi 饺子 during the New Year to symbolize wealth, reunion, and fresh beginnings.

Dumplings are folded into a crescent that resembles ancient Chinese gold or silver currency. Eating them is like “eating money,” which symbolically invites prosperity for the coming year. The more you eat, the more luck you’re said to gather! We open at 5pm! 🥟🥟🥟🥟🥟🥟🥟🥟

Jake can juggle - pretty well - is from Minnesota, and has a middle name that is itself a full name! Jake’s favorite fish is the Ten Vegetable Mala Dry Pot (that’s now 2 favorites for this dish!)
