New Orleans has been arguing about the best muffuletta for generations — and we wouldn't have it any other way.

The iconic sandwich was born at Central Grocery in the French Quarter in 1906, when Sicilian immigrant Salvatore Lupo reportedly created it for workers who wanted an easier way to enjoy the meats, cheese and olive salad of a traditional Sicilian lunch.
