Good dogs make great wildlife neighbors. 🐾Today we're celebrating both Watch Wildlife Wednesday and National Dog Day by highlighting one simple way visitors can help protect the animals that call Mammoth Cave National Park home: being a responsible pet owner.

Whether you're hoping to spot a white-tailed deer along a trail, watch songbirds in the forest, or catch a glimpse of a muskrat along the Green River, every visitor plays a role in keeping wildlife wild. Pets can unintentionally disturb animals, damage sensitive habitats, or introduce scents that alter wildlife behavior. This is true for even the friendliest four-legged hiking buddy. That's why we encourage visitors exploring pet-friendly areas of the park to become B.A.R.K. Rangers by following these easy principles:

🐾 Bag your pet's waste and dispose of it properly
🐾 Always leash your pet
🐾 Respect wildlife
🐾 Know where you can go

By following B.A.R.K. Ranger principles, you help ensure that both wildlife and visitors can safely enjoy Mammoth Cave National Park for generations to come.

Join us if you dare for a haunted Halloween stroll! 🧟 On Saturday, October 17th at 5:30 pm we will meet in front of the Jack Thomas House and take a twilight walk through downtown Leitchfield sharing some of the ghoulish tales and legends that have been handed down over the decades from Grayson County’s haunted past. Along the stroll through town we will also visit three older cemeteries and share the histories of some of our ancestors buried there. Make plans to join us for this evening of history and mystery. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased online by scanning the QR code below or by visiting the Jack Thomas House during regular business hours. The tour is limited to the first 25 people so be sure to register today! The deadline to register is September 25th. 🎃👻
