Zach’s says hi and suggests pairing this week’s deli special- white chicken chili with a savory sweet corn & balsamic tomato danish from Vikings and Goddesses Pie Co. ! Speaking of Reuben’s- did you know we offer two other versions? A Rachel with turkey breast, or a Beet Veggie Reuben. (The Rachel isn’t on the menu- but just ask!) All of our Reuben’s have Angelica's Garden ‘s delectable sauerkraut on them! If you love it- we carry a wide variety of their fermented goodies in our cooler case! Come check it out! 🤩

Have you had our Reuben’s yet? They’ve become one of our most popular item. (Usually sold out Sunday FYI) we slice our own corned beef and Swiss cheese at the commercial kitchen, thus the limited availability… Served on Rising Bread ‘s delicious organic rye sourdough! If you’re a fan- we have their breads for sale. Hearty, healthy and so tasty. We pick the bread up Friday mornings piping hot out of the oven. Stop by and pick up a loaf (and/ or sandwich!)

Hey all- little heads up, we will be CLOSED this Thursday (tomorrow) the 13th. Little catch up needed in the kitchen and life! This week in the deli case! … Sloppy Joes are back (using organic grass fed ground beef) and we made a limited number of our sourdough rolls to accompany. We also have guacamole, peach salsa (check out our special for that on the second slide), and new power bowls (chicken or veggie) with our house spicy chili lime dressing! This is a little outside my comfort zone because I’m not one to toot my own horn—but expressing my gratitude is long overdue.

Last winter, while we were getting River Horse Market ready to open, I entered the Mississippi River Regional Planning Commission’s nine-county Business Plan Competition, figuring, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

After placing fifth in the written competition, I was invited to the live pitch competition in La Crosse (think Shark Tank). I drove down the river road with butterflies in my stomach and left convinced I’d done just okay—though Zach insisted otherwise!

So I was genuinely surprised and honored to learn that River Horse Market earned 3rd place.

The prize money is certainly appreciated, but what means even more is knowing they believed in our vision: a market and deli serving wholesome, from-scratch food, offering plenty of options for those with dietary restrictions, celebrating the place I was fortunate to grow up, and giving locals and travelers one more reason to stop in Maiden Rock.

Thank you to the Mississippi River Regional Planning Commission for believing in our idea, and thank you to every person who has walked through our doors since we opened. Your support, encouragement, and conversations have meant more than you know. Zach and I are incredibly grateful, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon. ❤️
