For Those Who Gave All
Today we pause. Not for sales. Not for barbecues. For silence.
We remember the names we never knew, and the lives they never got to finish. Sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, who boarded planes and ships and never came home. They left behind folded flags, empty chairs, and a debt we can never repay.
What they gave
They gave up first steps they’d never see. Graduations they’d never attend. Grandchildren they’d never hold. They gave up ordinary Tuesdays and second chances. They gave it all so we could argue freely, worship freely, live freely.
What we owe
We owe more than a day. We owe a life lived worthy of their sacrifice. We owe the truth that freedom isn’t free, it’s paid for in full by those who believed this country was worth dying for.
So today
If you see a flag at half-staff, let it catch in your heart.
If you pass a cemetery, say their names, even if you don’t know them.
If you enjoy this day with family, hold them a little tighter. That’s why they did it.
To the fallen: We hear you. We remember you. We are free because of you.
Your courage outlived you. Your sacrifice endures in every breath of liberty we take.
