Community Notice: Adjusted Weekend Hours 🖤
To our community, neighbors, and friends:
We will be opening late this Saturday and Sunday. We are choosing to take this time to stand with our community during this period of intense grief, sorrow, and reflection. As a small, Black-owned business, we deeply share this collective pain. We are lifting you all up in our prayers for strength, peace, and healing.
Truthfully, we cannot afford to close our doors—but we must take a stand against the killing of yet another Black person.
We are raising Black teenagers here. As a mother of a 15-year-old special needs son who is nonverbal and loves taking strolls with his wagon through the Atwood neighborhood, I constantly carry the heavy worry of what could go wrong if he ever faces a situation where his actions/ sounds are misunderstood by the police. I have coached him to just sound Ma Ma so someone knows to call me 💔
He walks around with an ID badge so people know he belongs to Les délices de Awa. He has built beautiful connections with business owners across Atwood and W***y St. I refuse to strip away his independence and happiness just because I am terrified for his safety.
We love our community, and we thank you for understanding why we need to do this. Please keep our family, and all families carrying this fear, in your hearts. 🙏🏾✨
