One of the best compliments we received from a diner who tried out our rustic woogeoji sagol tang (beef soup with cabbage leaves): “This reminds me of the food served in the countryside of Korea. Can’t believe you’re serving this in Madison!” ❤️

Just a friendly PSA for those who are still unaware you can customize our fan-favorite tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes). Pictured is the regular tteokbokki followed by the cheesy and the loaded bulgogi - all terrific in their own ways but better when personalized to your own palate.

Fun fact: our rice cakes are made from 100% rice and NOT wheat flour, which is more common at other shops due to its inexpensiveness. We use the best ingredients, so you can taste the difference. 🔥

Secret off-menu alert: Gimmari.

Crispy seaweed rolls filled with potato starch noodles - a popular Korean street food often served alongside its more popular cousin tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes). Super popular with the street vendors in Korea, you can have them for a limited time when ordering our fan-favorite tteobokki. 🔥

A friendly PSA that, besides showing off this silky soondubu jjigae, we will be open for dinner service tonight while closing the shop tomorrow for Thanksgiving. Regular business hours thereafter for those who can’t get enough of our soups and stews.

From our family to yours, wishing everyone a healthy and happy Thanksgiving filled with fantastic food, family, and friends. 🦃🍁

As much as we love featuring beautiful food photos, we value the work that goes behind the scenes - like this photo snapped of the matriarch preparing beef brisket that’s been boiled for hours and then shredded piece by piece by hand. We told her you can get the same consistency by using a fork, but she insists doing it the traditional way just as our ancestors did. It’s just one of the reasons why our soups and stews - particularly this yukgaejang (spicy shredded beef soup) - have so much flavor and often sell out fast in the winter months. Speaking of which, winter has officially begun with this morning’s snowfall, which means you’ll probably be seeing her often prep another staff favorite!

We’re not sure why galbi tang (beefy short rib soup) isn’t the best-selling soup at the shop, but it’s definitely the most favorite among staff and those who know - especially on chilly days like today.

For all the veterans out there, a generous discount will be deducted from your meal now through the weekend. Happy Veterans Day!

By popular demand, we’re now actively selling our artisanal kimchi made weekly using the highest-quality ingredients sourced locally and from the motherland. The containers hold a little more than 16oz (1 lb) of kimchi with a price tag of $10. They can now be purchased at the shop while larger orders will also be accepted with advanced notice. If you have any questions about why our kimchi is special from others, we just might tell you in the comment section. 😊

Another reason why we restarted social media is this thing of beauty here: traditional kimchi. Although many would see it as a fermented staple in Korean cuisine (which it is), we view it with reverence as it’s four decades of trial and error to perfect the right amount of salinity for salting and getting a balanced sauce that’s sweet, salty, and savory. It’s no surprise that people have requested large batch amounts from near and far, which we’re happy to comply when making our weekly batch of 50 heads of cabbage for a total of 150 lbs of kimchi. 😮

One of the main reasons we restarted social media isn’t for promotion or to attract new customers. We want to educate and show people how much work goes into preparing every dish, such as these complimentary banchan (ie side dishes) that come with every meal. Besides the kimchi, the banchan are made fresh daily and are rotated depending upon the availability of fresh produce. Pictured banchan are kimchi, miyuk joolgi (seaweed strips), gamja jorim (braised sweet potatoes), and dubu eomuk (tofu fish cakes). Plus the kicker: they’re all refillable upon request!

For those who order a bottle of makgeolli (aka unfiltered rice wine), we might just give you a sample of the real stuff learned and crafted in the motherland from makgeolli masters. Pictured is freshly fermented rice wine undiluted with water and no sugar additives. Even better, it has a ABV hovering around 13% for people who appreciate the original taste of Korea’s old spirit. 🍶

Still working on sourcing premium craft beer from Korea, but these favorites continue to satisfy our loyal patrons. Kloud Premium and OB Premier are both German-style pilsners while Cass is a light, refreshing lager popular among the younger crowd. No matter which one you choose, it’ll undoubtedly make your meal that much better. Gunbae! Cheers! 🍻
