25 years ago today, the world stopped. Most of us are old enough to remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when our country was attacked.

Every year since, we have honored the lives lost and the heroes who ran toward danger during that cowardly act of terrorism. We will never forget the lives that were taken, the families who were changed forever, or the sacrifices made that day.

But as we remember September 11th, I hope we also remember something else: how close we became.

In the days and weeks that followed, we rallied around one another. We put aside our differences, cared for our neighbors, and showed the world what Americans are capable of when we stand together. We were reminded that, despite our differences, we are all part of something bigger than ourselves.

Our country and our world have changed tremendously since that day. But one thing has not changed—the value of a life, and how quickly it can all be taken away.

So today, let us honor those we lost by appreciating the people standing beside us. Treat your fellow neighbor with kindness, compassion, and respect. Don’t let our differences become more important than the things that unite us.

There will always be forces that seek to divide us. Let’s not give them the satisfaction.

Today, we remember the fallen. We honor the heroes. And we remind ourselves that we are stronger when we stand together.

Never forget.
