# # ๐ฌ Brunch Babes: Behind the Scenes โ Episode 2
# # # **โWaitโฆ Weโre Actually Doing This?โ**
In our last episode, we told you how we somehow ended up auditioning for *The Great Food Truck Race.*
What we didn't tell you is that we didn't actually know we were going until **about a week before we left.** ๐ณ
The casting process was LONG. There were multiple rounds, interviews, conversations, waitingโฆ and a whole lot of wondering if this was actually going to happen.
Right up until the end, we genuinely didn't know if we were officially cast.
I was the one doing most of the communication with the production company and the network, so when my phone rang about a week before we were supposed to leave, I knew exactly who it was.
It was the executive producer.
And he called to congratulate me.
**We were going.**
And then he told me to pack our bags and be prepared to be gone for **up to six weeks.**
I laughed.
๐๐๐
There was absolutely NO WAY we were going to be gone for six weeks.
At least, that's what I thought.
We packed our bags, said our goodbyes and headed to the airport.
And here's where things got REALLY surrealโฆ
We didn't know exactly what was waiting for us.
We didn't even get our plane tickets until a day or two before we left. We learned of where our first location would be at that same time.
So we got on a plane and basically trusted the process.
When we landed, I got a text from one of our contacts with the production company:
**โLook for a white van labeled #3.โ**
๐
So there we were, walking through the airport looking for a mysterious white van with a ** #3** on the window.
And somehowโฆ we found it.
We got into the van and were officially on our way.
I remember thinkingโฆ
*Okay. This is really happening.*
We eventually arrived at the hotel **late that night**, and that's when we started running into a few of the other contestants.
And I'll never forget one of those first moments.
There were contestants behind us showing us cookbooks they had written that were literally being sold on Amazon.
**COOKBOOKS.**
Meanwhile, we were just trying to figure out what we'd gotten ourselves into. I'm still thinking we are going to cook some food and someone may follow us around with a camera. ๐
But we still hadn't met everyone.
The **next day** was when we finally met the entire cast.
And THAT is when it really hit me.
**We were in for something CRAZY.**
Most of the cast had actual cooking experience. They were working professionally in restaurants and kitchens and had a level of knowledge about food that we simply didn't have. Ummm, I was a mom who loved to cook. I had worked in restaurants as well but mostly front of the house and a short stint in a kitchen. Shout out to Andrew who took a chance on me in his kitchen and showed me the ropes for a year. Thank GOD I had that experience before this.
I remember hearing that one of the contestants had even worked in Emeril Lagasse's kitchen.
And I'm thinkingโฆ
**What exactly are we doing here?!** ๐
Because we had **ZERO restaurant experience.**
We knew how to make our food, kind of. We truly had each come up with some ideas of what we may cook on the show and each made a few things to try.
We knew how to work hard.
We knew how to figure things out.
But a food truck?
A reality TV competition?
Six weeks away from home?
**We had no idea.**
And then there was another group of people who became a HUGE part of our experience โ the people behind the scenes.
The production team.
The people making sure we were where we needed to be, keeping us safe, keeping everything moving, answering our million questions and basically trying to keep this entire circus functioning.
We honestly wish you could have gotten to know some of those people.
Because we relied on them SO much.
Their expertise, their teasing (you know who you are!), their humor and eventually their friendship became such an important part of our experience. I am pretty sure they also thought we would be around for about two days and not the entire six weeks as well.
When you're thrown into something like this, you start clinging to the people around you.
Because every single morning you wake up and have **NO IDEA what is going to happen that day.**
You don't know where you're going.
You don't know what you're going to be asked to do.
You don't know what the challenge is.
You don't know what's going to happen to your team.
And you definitely don't know how long you're actually going to be there.
And here's the crazy partโฆ
**We hadn't even filmed our first day yet.**
๐
So that's where we'll leave Episode 2.
Because next upโฆ
# # # **A Day in the Life of The Great Food Truck Race.**
What was it REALLY like to wake up every morning, walk onto that truck and have absolutely no idea what was coming next?
We're going to take you there. โค๏ธ
**And keep those questions coming!** We're going to keep answering them as we tell the story, because there is A LOT we couldn't tell you back then.
