In 2020 we chose community.
Last year we chose community.
Last month we chose community.
Last week we chose community.
Yesterday we chose community.
Today we still choose community.
Tomorrow we will and away choose community.

We cannot choose ourselves without standing with our community. Standing with our community means choosing ourselves beacuse there is no great person that ever existed rise above oppression, evil, struggle, difficulty, and hardship alone, there is always someone standing besides, if not behind them—visibly and loudly, if not invisibly and quietly.

But one should know, one never stands alone when one chooses community and community should know no one should left standing alone when we choose each other—community.

Thank you and for showing us what community means and how we can show up supporting one another with this incredible Cambodian American Art Literacy Festival 📚

With gratitude,
Nibbāna.

We are reminded that while we cannot control everything in our lives and the world, one important thing to note (make aware) is—do not waste time fixating on things we cannot control. This does not means, however that we should turn a blind eye from the suffering of the world. It means because we are aware, we are intentional in how we live our lives.

Our human tendency of control is deep-seated, often subconscious, need to influence outcomes and make sense of this complex world driven by our desire for security and predicability which often results in reducing anxiety and increasing motivation. However, when we are too focused on trying to control things that are not in our control— the results are the opposite— increase anxiety, losing clarity of reality, and motivation altogther.

Today we want to remind you, ourselves included that we are born to choose. Choose to do what we can control and choose take action (make indirect change) each day with one step at a time, no matter how small. In this way we understand our own individual power that we can create/change our reality.

With this understanding, we can create a plan— making change, “indirectly.” Indirect change is not an instant change. An instant change requires a direct plan. Indirect change takes time, it takes intention, and exertion— it creates ripple effect without muddle the waters. This ripple effect is not like waves effect. Ripple effect is calm, stabled, prolonged, sustained, and stayed constant for a longer time vs big waves of changes which constantly fluxuate due to its rapid changes.

Good work takes time. Great work takes even longer time and strenuous effort. So, desire to let go of things we cannot control must come from an understanding of this process and choose to trust that process in order to create space for ourselves to build a better reality and make a sustainable change.

Make choice. Be intentional. Let go. Approach indirectly. Take small steps. Create ripple effect. Build sustainable change.

LIFE IS A GAME THAT MUST BE PLAYED

Life is a game that must be played and you can't get out of it.

We are responsible. We can't hand off the responsibilities to anybody else no external agency can take those responsibilities away from us. If there some agency that is making decisions for us then we’re not making decisions at all. But are are making decisions and that is ours— the consequences of the decisions are our future, our life.

And how we make them we will give feedback systems within our own emotional structure whether the decision lights up the circuits of positive emotion or not.

And some of the ideas that won't light up our system is the idea that all decisions, all emotions, and all actions are relative and they are all each of them are as good as another.
We will find out they aren't.

And how will we find that out? Bc we will feel it.
In Tao Te Ching, goes like this, “one who feels lost is lost. One who loses the way feels lost.”

And we will know whether we are finding our way to the human truth, the truth which enriches our humanity and give us a sense of the meaning and purpose of life or not is how to we FEEL.

If we feel happy, content, complete then we are not lost. We have found the way.

During these dark times we are experiencing terror, loss, sadness, and anger. We may feel helpless at times, but we are not hopeless and this is very important for us to remember to remind ourselves and each other that each of us are not a lone.

We invite you to seek the light, peace, strength, and hope in your community. We do not have solution for the world we live in, what we do have is this light, deep listening.

There is pain and suffering in each of us. We encourage you to give yourself and others a chance to express it.

CONNECTIMG TO OUR SUFFERING
Mindfulness enabled individuals to acknowledge and embrace their suffering. Recognizing emotions like fear and sadness allows for compassion and understanding, both for oneself and others.

LISTENING DEEPLY
Awareness of suffering is crucial for compassion. Engaging with and understanding personal or our collective suffering leads to genuine compassion for oneself and others, allowing for transportative connection, generates collective strength, and produces clarity for making wise decisions together as community.

WHAT TO BRING
Please wear comfortable clothes. Bring a meditation cushion (of you have). Chairs available for those who need.
