We’re sorry, but our St. Matthews cafe will be closed for the next few days.

A building-wide plumbing issue caused the main sewer line to back up, affecting the first-floor businesses in our building.

While the issue did not originate with Quills, our cafe unfortunately sustained some damage to its cabinetry and woodwork.

We’re working with the building team and a professional restoration company to remove damaged materials, thoroughly clean and sanitize the space, and make sure everything is ready before we welcome you back.

We’ll share an update here as soon as we have a reopening date.

In the meantime, we’d love to see you at our nearby cafe at 2001 Frankfort Avenue.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.

“The concrete floor felt like waves under our feet,” our friend and partner Shady from Forest Coffee told us.

Right now the communities in Colombia need support.

Quills is currently the largest purchaser of Black Condor coffee from Forest Coffee’s Black Condor Project.

The project supports more than 100 independent coffee producers, a community shaped by years of conflict. It provides farmers with a shared processing station, hands-on education, and premium payment above the market rate for higher quality coffee.

Beginning today, we’re donating $2 from every bag of Black Condor sold to earthquake relief efforts in Colombia.

Preorders for the James Hoffman x Lucia Solis Fermentation Project are live! We will be roasting and shipping mid September so the kits arrive to you by the live tasting, currently schedule for October 3rd.

These kits contain four expressions of one coffee.

It was grown in Antigua Valley, Guatemala by Hector and Lilian Leal at Finca San Miguel Urias. It was then harvested and divided into four batches. From that point, only one thing was changed: the fermentation process.

A single coffee, divided and processed four different ways:

Mechanically demucilaged (no fermentation)
Wild fermentation
Yeast inoculated
Lactobacillus inoculated

Brew them side by side and join us for the live worldwide tasting on October 3rd.
