If you’ve enjoyed a meal at Steel Bender, and tasted the care and pride behind it, Juan, one of our longtime cooks, is one of the reasons why.

A few weeks ago, Juan was riding his scooter after dropping off his wife’s van for repairs when he was struck by a car. The driver took off and left him there on the road.

When Juan woke up in the hospital, he was facing multiple breaks in his foot and ankle, his ankle is basically destroyed. To make a terrible situation worse, he woke up to find that his wallet, phone, watch, and even his shoes were gone.

Juan has been with us since 2019. He is a hard-working, incredibly kind man who smiles while he works the line. And most importantly, he is a husband and a father. We are upset, angry, that this happened to our colleague, and also so grateful that this wasn't much, much worse, that he's alive. His wife, who worked with us several years ago, has returned part-time to work with us again to help their family.

Our staff has already started pulling money together to help. But we're now reaching out to our community.

Please help us support one of our own. Note that the Chant Family is organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Juan. Funds will be withdrawn from my (Shelby Chant) bank account and transferred directly to Juan.
