The Apple Softserve Pie is new on the menu this week, Apple Pie Softserve layered over brown sugar cake with caramel and brown sugar crumble in a graham cracker crust. Have you ever tried Bananas Foster?

The story starts in 1951 at Brennan's in New Orleans, where Owen Brennan asked his chef to dream up something worthy of a magazine feature, and the kitchen came back with bananas cooked down in butter and brown sugar and cinnamon, lit with rum right at the table, and spooned warm over something cold. They named it for Richard Foster, a friend of Owen's who happened to be running the city's crime commission at the time, which is a strange and wonderful thing to have your name attached to forever. We took that whole caramel soaked, flambéed idea and put it on the menu as a Softserve Pie, no open flame required, just the brown sugar and banana and a little of that warm rum and caramel memory in every spoonful.

Heading to the Hollywood Bowl this summer and hoping to make a great evening a little more memorable, we have you covered. Magpies is waiting in the grab and go freezer inside Marketplace East, and it rounds out the family style dining as well, joining the BBQ and the Baja Seafood for two from Suzanne Goin's menu, so dessert is handled long before the first song.

Fathers tend to do their best work quietly. The early mornings, the late nights, the rides given and the worries kept to themselves, all the ordinary things that rarely come with a thank you because they happen in the background of a life. This Sunday is a good day to say it out loud.

To every father who keeps showing up, again and again, without ever asking for credit, thank you. We notice, even when no one mentions it. A day like this deserves a good ending, and we think that looks like a Magpies Softserve Pie on the table after dinner. To make it simple, delivery is free all weekend, both Saturday and Sunday.

-Birthday Cake - "Tastes just like sneaking a spoonful of batter before the cake goes in the oven. Sweet vanilla and cake batter"
-Midnight Chocolate - "Deep, rich chocolate flavor without the bitterness associated with dark chocolate"
-Roasted Strawberry - "To deepen the flavor and enhance their natural sweetness, we slow roast strawberries down to a concentrated puree, then fold it into our Softserve base"

This Softserve Pie was made for June, but it turned out there was a lot more worth celebrating than one month could hold, and before long the birthdays, anniversaries and the ordinary Tuesdays had all found their way to it.
