Our mission trip to Belize was the most incredible experience we’ve had, and we could see the Lord’s hand in everything. Our team of 11 along with a summer intern Naomi, Pastor Job and his wife Mayra seemed hand picked by God for this experience during our time spent there. Staying in the small mission house helped us grow together in a special way. Life changing and we definitely plan to go back! Thank you to everyone who helped support us through donations and prayer. We have been truly blessed.
We spent two days ministering at the prison in Hattieville. The women, youth and men; as classroom settings and cell to cell. God placed on my heart to speak on our heavenly Father’s love, God gives us new names, and Joe spoke on being called out of darkness and into light. The last building of men we visited was considered the Christian section because most are believers. These man are awaiting probation or release. We had a sweet time of worship, testimony and service. The “Hole” (solitary unit) is nearby and I’m sure in their loneliness it is encouraging to hear the praise music. Our leader John was been ministering to these inmates for 26 years building relationships with many.
We spent a day at the orphanage working and playing with children around the ages of 8-18. You’re might consider it more of a group home since they are not adoptable. Once they are 18, they are not “kicked out” but given a choice if they want to stay and help or go to school or get a job, etc. Very different from the American foster system. We played sports, made bracelets, colored, and just loved on these precious children.
We worshipped with men at the Freedom House (a ministry similar to Graciously Broken in Longview) who are overcoming addictions etc. Great testimonies shared and praise service.
We packed backpacks with rice and beans and walked through the village of Harmonyville delivering food and the gospel to those in need. One senior lady invited the group into her home and showed how she grinds the corn down and cooks her meals.
We worshipped in a Wednesday night prayer service and Sunday gathered to worship and celebrate the church’s 8th year anniversary. The church was packed with 200 people, 4 churches coming to participate in the celebration. Wonderful time of fellowship and seeing all God has done during the year.
Our last day we had fun on the island snorkeling, saw coral reef, nurse sharks (which I picked one up like a puppy and rubbed its belly 😂 no pictures but several witnesses, I promise!) and sting rays. While it was a nice experience, I probably rather have gone back to the orphanage.
We met a special lady Tiadora who makes the most beautiful Mayan baskets. She even taught some of us how to weave/sew the jippy jappa palm leaves. We both made coasters.
We met people wherever we went, marketplaces, bus/van rides, boat, restaurants, etc and shared the gospel. The boldness and love of God that I saw in the team was awe inspiring! The testimonies of Pastor Job and his brother, William, who also pastors another church was uplifting. God is working in Belize and we are so thankful to witness the fruits of the labor set before us.
There are so many stories we could share! When John said he would give us as much as we wanted, he did and our hearts are full of God’s goodness. If you are thinking of going on a mission trip, please don’t hesitate and say yes to his calling.
