Someone asked me the other day if owning a restaurant was hard?
I chuckled and said sometimes, but I truly love what I do.
So here is the real truth for me……
Every morning, I wake up knowing there will be challenges and hurdles ahead of me. I just don’t know what they’ll be yet.
As I drink that first cup of coffee, my mind is already running through everything that needs to happen to make the business successful that day.
And then the day begins.
A piece of equipment breaks.
We run out of something—not because we didn’t order enough, but because we sold more than we projected
There’s suddenly a puddle of water in the middle of the floor…and nobody has any idea where it came from.
Three offices are waiting for their lunch orders to arrive, and we need to finish the order NOW.
A truck arrives with 40 cases of food on it and I stop to check everything, to find that something is missing or damaged and it’s something we desperately need TODAY.
The phone is ringing.
Tickets are printing.
An order just got made wrong and needs to be remade ASAP.
The deadline to place our next truck order is approaching.
And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I’m darting through the dining room, saying hello to customers while trying to get whatever it is someone needs from me at that exact moment.
Then someone stops me, looks at me and says, “You look tired.”
I am tired.
Some days, I’m absolutely exhausted.
But I smile and say, “I love what I do, I’m just not 25 anymore.”
Because most people never see everything that happens behind the scenes to make a restaurant run. They just come through the doors, sit down, order their meal and hopefully leave happy.
And that’s exactly how it should be and happy customers is exactly what we want!
“I like the controlled chaos of restaurant life—the challenges, the pressure, and the satisfaction of getting to the end of the day knowing we pulled it off.”
Then this happened…..
This morning, before the chaos even had a chance to begin, I picked up my phone to see which offices needed lunch today and found a wonderful review waiting for me.
And for a minute, I just sat there and smiled.
Because those words reminded me why we do all of this.
They also reminded me that I don’t do it alone.
I have a great team of people behind me who show up, work hard, solve problems, laugh through the craziness and help make That’s A Wrap what it is.
Restaurant life isn’t easy. Some days it will absolutely wear you out.
But then someone takes a few minutes out of their day to tell you that you’re doing something right.
And suddenly that first cup of coffee tastes just a little bit better. ❤️
To my team—thank you. I know what it takes to make all of this happen every day, and I couldn’t do it without you.
And to our customers who take the time to leave a kind word, tell a friend about us, or simply keep walking through our doors…
You have no idea how much it means. ❤️
