Calling all villagers!

Mother Nature has tucked one last warm Saturday into the pocket of October, and she has handed it to all of us as a gift. The coffee pots are full, the bakery is fresh, and the doors of Snarfinkels are open wide for you.

We have also been blessed by a lovely article from Cheryl at The Business News, and we are tickled pink by her kind words. You can read it at the link below.

Now, villagers, let us speak of treats, for there are treats galore! The shelves are bursting with fresh bakery: kringles, mini kringles, crowns, strudels, pound cakes, and cake slices. For our gluten free friends, there are 7 flavors of cookies, pumpkin muffins, and apple c***r donuts.

Our coffee cauldrons are bubbling, too! Take home any of our 12 flavors of gourmet coffee beans, or sip a freshly brewed cup of Candlelight Cottage, Wicked Witch, Schnitzen Giggles, or Fairytale Frosting. ☕

For those with a sweet tooth, the chocolate cupboard holds 8 flavors of truffles, plus turtles, meltaways, and sea salt caramels. There are also chocolate covered espresso beans, almonds, raisins, bridge mix, graham crackers, and Oreos.

And for the children, and those of us who are young at heart, the toy chest is brimming with silliness: squishies galore, whoopee cushions, disguise glasses, kazoos, Chinese finger traps, scratch and sniff stickers (and puzzles!), and super balls. New this week are crazy straws and bubble wands! 🫧

Want to take a little Snarfinkels magic home? Pick up a hat, a ceramic mug, or a travel mug. You will also find custom garden art crafted by the folks at Vintage Works, and you can special order a piece in your favorite color.

It is such a beautiful October day, and we would love for you to visit and add a little magic to yours. ✨

🍁 Snarfinkels... the Secret Gateway to Door County? 🍁

The Autumn season has finally arrived! The leaves have begun to blush, the pumpkin spice flows like honey, and the air smells of nutmeg and woodburning fireplaces. The shopkeepers of Snarfinkels cannot help but gaze out their front door at the tiny, fiery sugar maples standing guard. They were planted years ago with great intention, as all things at Snarfinkels are. The shopkeepers will surely be old and gray before these little trees reach their full glory. But oh, just imagine the crimsons and scarlets that will welcome travelers for many Autumns to come!

Speaking of crimsons and scarlets, the beautiful Fall colors have reminded so many to begin their pilgrimage to Door County. But something peculiar, something magical has happened that is a new part of their journey this year. Travelers are arriving from faraway lands like Florida, Washington State, Arizona, and Chicago, and their first waypoint is Snarfinkels! Word of our tiny wonder has traveled across the land (and across their glowing screens), and these merry wanderers are beginning their Door County adventure right here. Before turning their horseless carriages onto the Highway 57 wagon trail, they journey 15 minutes out of their way just to step inside our humble little boutique.

The shopkeepers are astonished, and their hearts swell with pride to be a new part of a journey so many have taken before. Perhaps someday our castle village will grow grand enough to be a final destination all its own. Until then, we shall keep the lanterns lit and the kettles warm. And if you choose to start your Door County getaway by stopping your carriage at Snarfinkels, your secret is safe with us......for now!

Today’s enchanted brews await your empty cup:

☕ Candlelight Cottage
☕ Wicked Witch
☕ Schnitzen Giggles
☕ Fairytale Frosting

A warm and beautiful Autumn weekend awaits, dear friends! Stop in for a caramel apple and a travel mug of your favorite brew to begin your adventure, or let life slow down for a while with a fresh pastry and a little sunshine for what may be Mother Nature’s last summer-like weekend.

🗺️ The Tale of the Weary Traveller 🗺️

Once upon a time, on a long and winding road far from home, a weary traveller trudged along with tired feet and a heavy heart. The wind was chilly, the sun was still low, and the road seemed to have no end.

Then, around a bend, a warm golden glow appeared. A humble castle with a wee little shop, covered in velvet-blue walls and ornate cherry millwork. The traveller had never heard of such a place, but the scent of fresh coffee drifted out the door, and that was all the invitation needed.

Inside, a wondrous world awaited!

On the shelves sat shiny new puzzles filled with every Scratch and Sniff sticker from the glorious 1980s. The traveller gasped, scratched one, and was instantly seven years old again. 🍓

Nearby, Chef Sara's gourmet caramel apples sat in a row, dipped and drizzled and dressed in nuts and sprinkles. The traveller simply had to take one along for the road.

And then came the coffee! Four freshly brewed flavors bubbled in their pots: Candlelight Cottage, Wicked Witch, Schnitzen Giggles, and Cinnamon Conquistador. After much delicious deliberation, the traveller chose a steaming cup.

But what's this? A cup to carry along? Why yes! The villagers had been asking for months, and at long last they've arrived: our brand new Snarfinkels Travel Mugs, in royal blue and regal purple, each marked with the Snarfinkels crest. The traveller filled one to the brim, tucked the apple under an arm, and slipped out the door, no longer weary at all. ✨

And so the traveller lived happily ever after, with a warm mug in hand and a sweet treat for the road.

The End of their story...or perhaps just the beginning of yours!

Come visit us at Snarfinkels and find your own happily ever after. Travel mugs, nostalgic puzzles, caramel apples, and four fresh brews are all waiting for you! 🏰

🎃 Meet Sophie, Our First Snarfinkel 🎃

Now that Snarfinkels has been open for a spell, it's time to delve into the lore of the Snarfinkels.

It is our pleasure to introduce you to Sophie.

Many of you have already met her and seen her in her beautiful blue Victorian gown. But what many of you may not know is that Snarfinkels love so many of the creations of their human friends. They have a deep love of fairy tales, but the thing they love most of all are the holidays.

Halloween is Sophie's favorite holiday of the whole year. Just look at her now, dressed in her finest Victorian Halloween costume: a black gown spun with silver spiderwebs and tiny bats, a wide-brimmed hat with wings of its own, and a cat's mask on a stick in case she needs to slip away to a masquerade. She's enjoying dressing up, of course, while jack-o'-lanterns glow, the fire crackles, and the chandelier flickers overhead.

We are proud to unveil a beautiful oil painting of Sophie, ready to kick off the month of October and celebrate Halloween all month long! 🦇

And here's a little secret. Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and Sophie is already scheming. She's dreaming that a trunk-or-treat right here at Snarfinkels may be fun event, with some fine vintage vehicles parked out front, and all the villagers can dress in their favorite costumes as well. Sophie would love your help planning the festivities.

So tell us, dear villagers, what would you love to see at Snarfinkels this Halloween? 👻

🎃 A New Friend for the Headless Horseman 🎃

It began, as most things do at Snarfinkels, with a bit of worrying.

The Headless Horseman had been galloping through the shop all season, pumpkin pie in hand, and the shopkeepers began to fret that he was riding alone. "Every good haunt needs a companion," they said. And so they set off in search of one.

What they found was a coffee so delicious it very nearly stopped them in their tracks. Cocoa. Pumpkin. Nutmeg. Rich and warm and just a little bit mischievous.

But what to call it?

"Haunted House!" said one.

"Halloween Hayride!" said another.

The shopkeepers said them out loud, one after the other, and quickly discovered the trouble. Headless Horseman, Haunted House, Halloween Hayride. Far too many H's for one poor tongue to manage before breakfast.

Then someone said the obvious thing. The coffee was wicked good. The season was Halloween. And just like that, a name came bubbling up out of the cauldron.

Introducing Wicked Witch, a bubbling cauldron of cocoa, pumpkin, & spellbinding nutmeg. It may be the best tasting coffee in the land!

Come in today and pour yourself a cup. And while you're here, we're brewing two flavors that have never touched a single pot in this shop before: Cobblestone Crumble and Fairytale Frosting.

Three new brews, one Headless Horseman, and a witch who is finally not flying alone. ✨

Word has reached us from every corner of the village, and oh, what a tale it is. 📯

You may recall the great mug pillaging of late, when the villagers descended upon our shelves and carried off every last piece of Sunset Hill Stoneware pottery we had. We watched it happen with a mix of horror and, honestly, a bit of pride. Well, dear friends, the wagons have returned, laden and full. Our mugs are back in stock.

And this time, they've brought a stranger with them. Nestled among the familiar tankards and steins sits a new arrival we're calling "The Latte" (you can spot it front and center in the photo, all curves and cream-colored charm). It's handmade, a little different from the others on the shelf, and it's already made itself right at home. Come get yours today, tomorrow, or any Saturday now that we are open every Saturday 8 to 2.

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, the caramel apples have been holding steady, so if you were too slow to snag one last time, fortune favors you now (though we can't promise it will last, so don't dawdle). And two new loaves have joined the bakery case this week: a zucchini nut loaf, humble and hearty, and a pumpkin loaf, which we suspect may have arrived a touch early for autumn but refused to wait its turn.

Now, on to a matter of some seriousness.

For all the joy that's filled our little shop, and all the thousands of photos and videos our friends have so generously shared, our reviews on a certain search engine tell a stranger story. It would seem our page has been visited more often by jokers and jesters than by the very villagers who've smiled over a warm cup in our corner. And so we find ourselves locked in quiet battle with our old rival, the Grand Wizard who goes by the name Google, who seems to prefer mischief over magic.

We need reinforcements. If Snarfinkels has ever earned a smile from you, we'd be forever grateful if you'd leave us a review and tell the tale as you saw it. Consider yourself hereby inducted into the Snarfinkel Society, our band of loyal villagers who help set the record straight and cheer us on toward whatever comes next. If you're as excited as we are to continue telling our tale, we could use your help telling your version to the Grand Wizard Google.

The mugs are back. The Latte has arrived. The bread is warm. And the story is only just beginning. 🍂

📜 A Joyful Proclamation from Snarfinkels 📜

Last week, word travelled across the countryside that Snarfinkels now has caramel apples. The good villagers descended upon our caramel apples like a swarm of sugar-mad squirrels before winter. Every last apple, gone within hours!

But fear not, dear friends. The kitchen has been hard at work, and the caramel apples have returned home upon the shelves. That said, we shan't pretend the supply is endless this time. First come, first served, so don't dawdle if you have a craving.

And now, the second proclamation, one many of you have been clamoring for...

After several successful "pop-up" Saturdays that filled our little shop with more villagers than we could count, the verdict is in: Snarfinkels will now be open every Saturday, 8am to 2pm. Permanently inked on the scroll by the little red door welcoming our guests.

Who would have guessed that adding just three wee characters (8-2), could cause such celebration in the village? And yet here we are.

Come visit today, apples in one hand, coffee in the other. 🍎☕

📖 A Story of Sharing 📖

We all learned the same lesson long ago that the young school children are learning now: to share.

We would like to share the good fortune we have had at Snarfinkels of going viral with our village neighbors. Not only is this a nice gesture, it also helps solve a problem.

We've said the same thing from the beginning of our story about our tiny shop that is a humble twenty by twenty-four feet: "Snarfinkels is a Victorian boutique with gourmet brewed coffee and beans, bakery, candy, chocolates, and a little magic." ✨ But somehow, the internet has spun a tale of its own, convincing you to believe you are coming to the Disneyland of coffee shops. The top search result has become "Snarfinkels Coffee Shop." So let us set the record straight: SNARFINKELS IS NOT A COFFEE SHOP. Most villagers would be surprised to know that coffee is not our best selling item. It is third behind pastries and chocolates.

We have no power over what other villagers post, so we cannot help it if the latte crowd wanders in expecting a grand café and finds tremendous disappointment instead. But there is one thing within our power: helping our fellow shopkeepers down the lane.

If you're journeying down from the highlands in search of your latte, why not visit The Shop on Main in Oconto and Milk and Honey Cafe in Oconto Falls? If you're traveling up from the southern shires, why not visit Company Coffee in Suamico? And if you make your way all the way to Snarfinkels only to watch your caramel macchiato dreams go up in smoke, fear not, for Celtic Cottage, just two miles down the road in Sobieski, would happily serve you the latte or tea that you crave. ☕

Someday, Snarfinkels will serve lattes of its own. But if the whimsy of today isn't quite enough for you, we promise a latte at Snarfinkels won't be a life-altering event. So why not be a good neighbor and send some of your business their way? You needn't choose just one stop on your journey. Visit one of these fine purveyors of brewed beverages, and then wander into Snarfinkels for a sweet treat while you're in the area. 🍬

We'll leave you with one more stop worth making: be sure to visit Gene at Central Sales and Consignment, just two buildings to the south. They're all decked out for Halloween, so it makes for a lovely little detour when you come see us. 🎃

We could also use your help with our archnemesis, the Grand Wizard Google, who will not allow our voice to be heard. Please help us to knock down the search term "Snarfinkels Coffee Shop" by searching for something like "Snarfinkels", "Snarfinkels Boutique", or Snarfinkels Little Suamico". Together we can defeat our mortal enemy, and let the latte crowd find the coffee shops they are actually looking for.

Please share the heck out of this post to help spread some of our good fortune to our neighbors!

Lastly, thank you to Nichole Cohen for suggesting this story!

✨ The Tale of an Unimaginable Saturday ✨

As the children returned to their lessons, satchels full of pencils and dreams, a hush settled over Snarfinkels. The shopkeepers sighed, believing the season of merry crowds had drifted off with the summer breeze, and prepared themselves for quieter days ahead.

But magic, as it turns out, does not wait for an invitation.

On Friday, Jordan and Grace from WFRV Local 5 visited the wee little shop for a live broadcast on Local 5 Live, and word of Snarfinkels began traveling further than the shopkeepers ever dreamed. Yet Friday itself passed like all others. There was no reason to think Saturday would be any different. There were no hints about the wonder that awaited just beyond the sunrise.

After working 14 hours, the shopkeepers went home to rest their weary souls, and thought Saturday would be just another day. They couldn't have imagined how wrong they would be.

Saturday began like all others.....ever so quietly, with a mist rolling low over the land, the kind that always seems to precede something extraordinary. Soon one car rolled in, then another, then another, until the little lot could handle no more. Then the gravel lot filled, spreading until they reached Executive Circle. Then the cars lined the streets themselves. The shopkeepers' eyes opened wider and wider, until one of them quietly uttered, "Uh-oh." And that, dear friends, is when the line, the dreaded line, began to form; over fifty villagers strong, winding patiently beneath the late summer sun for five long hours. 🌞

The shopkeepers were so swept up in the wonder of it all, so busy filling hearts with joy, that not one of them thought to capture the moment as it unfolded. It was only once the line had finally quieted that they remembered their little cameras at all, and when they looked back at the day, they found the very image below, a glimpse of the enchantment they'd been too busy living to record.

By day's end, the shelves stood bare. No beans, no pastries, not even crumbs big enough for a mouse.

The shopkeepers had hoped to open their doors again for Labor Day. But alas, there is simply nothing left to sell. It will take all the magic in the land, and perhaps even a favor or two from the Snarfinkels themselves, to be ready to greet our guests again on Tuesday.

To every villager who journeyed near and far to visit our humble shop on Saturday, who braved the hot September sun, we thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. ❤ We are still catching our breath, and trying to understand what just happened.
