IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Welcome new and returning students to Fayetteville!
I’m Cody Yancey, owner of Yancey’s Dickson Street Dogs. I’m a U of A alum and Army veteran. I care about this community and the people in it.
While Dickson Street can be a lot of fun, it can also be dangerous. I’m offering my establishment as a SAFE PLACE for anyone who may need help while on Dickson Street. My team and I are here from 8 p.m.–4 a.m., Thursday through Saturday, and if you find yourself in an unsafe situation, we’re happy to help.
Sometimes you may feel like you’ve had too much to drink and aren’t sure how to get home. We can help you find a way to get home safely.
Sometimes you may have people around you who are making you feel uncomfortable or unsafe. You can come hang out with us—no questions asked and no purchase required.
Sometimes you may get separated from your friends, your phone is dead, and you’re not sure what to do. We carry phone chargers.
The bars close at 2 a.m. We’re here much later than that and can provide a safe place to figure out what to do next.
I’ve been trained to recognize opioid overdoses, and I carry Naloxone (opioid overdose reversal medication) kits.
SAFETY TIPS
* Don’t drive home intoxicated.
* Charge your phone before heading out.
* Don’t go home with someone you don’t know well.
* Try to use the buddy system and avoid being out alone, especially at the end of the night.
PARENTS - I NEED YOUR HELP
*Have a real conversation with them about safe alcohol consumption and the dangers of underage drinking.
*Many students are pre-drinking before Dickson and are already drunk once they arrive. This often leads to a bad night.
*Encourage them to not exceed a specific limit of drinks each night.
*Discuss with them the delayed onset of alcoholic beverages.
*Discuss the different types of drinks such as shots vs mixed vs beer and the alcoholic content of each.
I’ve lived in NWA my entire life. This is my community, and it’s an awesome one. Enjoy it. And if you need something, don’t hesitate to come see us.
