The wisp of steam rising up from your cup of coffee lets you know it’s hot and ready to drink. It beckons you to enjoy a good thing at its most fitting and appropriate time. But that wisp, that warmth, and that moment will pass. Both the coffee and the experience should be enjoyed in light of and in spite of their inevitable conclusion.
”Fugace” is an Italian word meaning fleeting, transient, or temporary, intentionally chosen for a here-today-gone-tomorrow coffee setup. Hopefully, the word can also serve as a reminder of the fleeting nature of our own lives—remember that you are dust, and to dust you will return. But that reminder need not be strictly morose.
There are good things for us to enjoy, and there is good for us to do in the time we have been given. And while there will almost definitely be another cup of coffee, another opportunity to meet, there’s always the small possibility it might not happen. This cup, and this meeting will finish. Enjoy it to the fullest.

Parishioner Jake Mousel’s Caffe Fugace specializes in on-site, custom coffee catering, bringing the quality and vibe of the local independent coffee shop directly to your home, business, or event. They have set up in break rooms and back yards, lobbies and garages, cafeterias and conference centers. Yeah, I don’t post a lot… But I’m grateful for the employee who snapped (and shared!) these photos from last week, and grateful for for treating their business to coffee.

It’s great to work with people for whom taking care of business means taking care of people!
