Happy 80th birthday to Frank Solich. Nebraska halfback Frank Solich is pictured in action during a 39-28 loss to Alabama in the 1966 Orange Bowl. Nicknamed "Fearless Frankie", the 5'8, 162 pound Solich played for the Huskers from 1963 to 1965. He was a tough undersized runner who started for the Cornhuskers in the 1964 and 1966 Orange Bowls.

Solich went on to a long coaching career. He spent 19 years as an assistant coach working under Tom Osborne at Nebraska. The Huskers appeared in 10 Orange Bowls during that time, winning national titles in 1994, 1995 and 1997. He eventually replaced the retired Osborne in 1998 and led Nebraska to its last appearance in the BCS National Championship Game--a 37-14 loss to Miami in the 2002 Rose Bowl. Solich went on to coach at Ohio University from 2005 to 2020. He finished his coaching career with a record of 173-101.
