Today’s find has a Cleveland connection! Located on Detroit Ave, the City Savings and Loan operated from 1920-1950. About the size of a half dollar, this savings account promotional coin was found on top of the bar with 100 years worth of pennies. I wonder how it made its way all the way to Lima, NY?

I knew this sign came down in the 50’s, but never expected we’d find it…yet in a back storage space hidden under about that many years of dust, there it was! 🚫

A bit of bar history: Up until the 60’s-70’s, women generally weren’t served at the bar in hotels and other establishments. They had their own separate areas and entrances (or didn’t enter at all).

The stated reasons vary, but most seem to agree this practice originated to maintain reputations, and also to avoid dragging skirts through spittoons, sawdust, and spills.

Happy sunny Monday morning! ☀️

What’s on the menu today? Well, if you had 65 cents roughly right around the end of the Great Depression, some prime rib! 🥩

Here’s another old menu we found tucked away in the old hotel desk in the office. I bet all of the options were delicious.

Tonight’s post is an exploration of the office.

Once a part of the general store located next door, the office acted check in for the rooms above and a place to buy ci**rs and ci******es for many years. Pat told us the story of the large picture window: At some point, a gas-powered cigar lighter exploded and blew a hole in the building, which they decided to make into a large picture window.

And check out the safe! The hotel registration slip mentions that all guest valuables needed to be locked up therein. Even more fascinating, a box with quill tips still resided in the cabinet above the old cash register (pictured in our profile picture).

We also uncovered some very old wallpaper: A geometric design, floral border, and then painted burlap as wainscoting. We plan to frame this so everyone can get an idea of what the room used to look like.

Happy Father’s Day! In honor of dads everywhere, I thought I’d post some of the kid’s memorabilia we’ve found in the hotel.

First up is a “The Little Rascals All Star Club” poster from the 1960s. Then a pocket knife with Hopalong Cassidy on it, and an Avengers comic.

There are tons of old games and toys in the hotel as well, which we hope to make available for everyone to enjoy in the future!

A little update to The Nut House: Incredibly, the bags that go in the top slots of the Nut house were still tucked away in a drawer in the desk in the office. This place really is a time capsule! Happy Friday all!
