Well know for having the best soups in the greater Rochester, NY area, also known for the best burgers and spiedies!

It’s been a busy few days moving things out to our community fundraiser but I did have some more time for junk drawer exploration!

These drawers contained even older artifacts from the hotel than the previous box of goodies.

My personal favorites are the old soap bar and the tickets for the 1937 Lima Rotary Dinner. $1.50 would be about $35 today: I wonder what was served? 🍽️

Attention fellow treasure hunters! We’re holding a fundraiser for the better part of the rest of the summer with items from the hotel.

Items are located at 7304 E Main St Lima NY 14485 in front of our white fence: Please don’t take our tables or extra fencing!

Please pay what you can, and take only what you need.

We will restock new items every few days, so please feel free to stop by on occasion to see if there’s anything you can use.

There is a donation box on the side of the carriage house or you can Venmo us: .

All proceeds will go directly towards hotel restoration.

Happy treasure hunting! 🪎

Today’s post is a little bit history and a little bit request for help! 🍻 As some of you might know, the bar at the hotel is quite unique.

As such, we’re having trouble finding period-appropriate bar stools and are hoping to find a local craftsman to work with.

We’d like some quotes for ten, 36” seat height, swivel stools with backs. Please feel free to comment here or message us and we’ll get back to you ASAP!

Here’s a few more fun facts about the bar:

1. It was originally a men’s-only “standing bar” with a height of 46”!
2. During prohibition, the bar became a soda fountain. 🍨
2. In 1955, the sign that said “NO LADIES served at the bar” was removed. Bar stools were placed at the bar for the first time.

Tonight’s treasure is a rare, very old photo of the inside of the American Hotel.

The first one of the original photo and the second is an AI colorization of what things might have looked like then.

I love the floors, and what looks to be wallpaper on the ceiling (not to mention the spittoons)! The best part is that it appears we still have the same desk and advertising board in the office of the hotel.

These old walls have seen so much history.

What a fantastic day to be out and about!

Here are a few more finds from the basement. I’ve always adored old containers and we’re inundated with them here at the hotel.

My great-grandpa loved Dutch Masters so the old cigar boxes are especially nostalgic to me. I also wonder if the cream pitcher was served with the “cereals for health” from the old menu we found…

Happy Wednesday everyone! ☀️ This is by far one of my favorite things we’ve found in the hotel: The Nut House. 🥜

I can’t seem to find anything quite like it except the individual jars, which appear to date from the early 20th century. I’d love to know if anyone knows anything else about it. I’m going to guess there were scoops that went in the top slots?

For now I plan to give it some TLC to get it ready to display in the taproom for all to enjoy.

Happy Saturday! ☀️

Tucked away in a closet was this old skeleton key and what I have to guess are a few of the early room tags.

Based on the current door numbering, this is the room that this key would open. I wonder if the room numbering has ever changed?

Unfortunately, the skeleton key lock sets have long since seized and been painted over, so we can’t identify which door this key opens. However, I think it would be pretty fantastic to restore them someday…🗝️

Today’s find might not be much of a treasure to most folks, but I was excited to take a break from cleaning to sort through this early version of “the junk drawer”…

A brief search dates the Mr. Goodbar box to the 1950s, but some of the contents looks to be from much earlier. Something tells me that if that little bottle of Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin didn’t clear things out when it was made, it definitely would today!

Which item is your favorite? ✂️🥄🔫💡

This morning we pause to remember and honor the brave folks who gave their lives in service to our country. 🇺🇸
We’re happy to carry on the tradition of decorating the hotel in red, white, and blue as she stands witness to this morning’s Memorial Day parade.
From all of us at the American Hotel of Lima, we wish you a meaningful and peaceful Memorial Day!

Good morning from the American Hotel! This breakfast menu dates from somewhere between 1910-1940, when the hotel stopped serving breakfast and began serving only two meals per day. Check out those prices! 🍳
