Bourbon n' Toulouse

Bourbon n' Toulouse A Cajun & Creole joint serving up scratch made meals at an incredibly affordable price for 20 years.
(1989)

In July 2004 Will Pieratt and Kevin Heathcoat took a the huge leap of faith and opened Bourbon n’ Toulouse by maxing out seven credit cards and simply hoping things worked out for the best. The business plan was simple: cook some damn good food, give back to the community that help keep their lights on and have as much fun as the law allows! Ten years later these guys are still extremely passionate about what they do and they haven’t grown up a bit, just ask their wives! Always cooking and laughing, these guys are serious about having fun. Stop in and sample the wide array of tasty Cajun and Creole dishes, grab a beer from the ever changing selection and drift away to their own little version of The French Quarter. Not bad for a washed up musician and a retired elementary teacher!

It is with great sadness that we announce our Leestown Rd. location we will be closing. Our last day of service will be Friday, June, 26th.

For over two decades our concept has always been to provide a delicious home cooked meal at a very fair price with a low profit margin on each meal sold. Unfortunately, the current state of our food system has caused prices to increase on the products we use so much that this location has not been making a profit.

Lexington, we really need your help! Cameron and I will have to deal with the financial ramifications of this, but that’s not our concern right now. What we need help with immediately is finding new jobs for the incredible people that make our Leestown location the fun place that it is.

If you’ve ever been to either one of our locations, then you know that our people are the best and any business in town would be lucky to have them! Some want to stay in the restaurant industry. Some want to try retail. Some would like to work in an office. Pretty much all of them have said the most important thing is that they simply need a paycheck and just want to work for good people.

Do you own, manage or work at a business that is hiring? Please post in the comments or email me at [email protected] and I will distribute to the staff.

One other thing…if you have something negative to say, please email me and I’ll be happy to discuss. Our staff deserves nothing but positive vibes and job offers. They don’t deserve negativity for something that was out of their control.

After we close this location on June 26th, please come visit us at our other location in Chevy Chase at 829 Euclid Ave.

We truly appreciate each and everyone of you that have supported our Leestown Rd. location!

This person came in last night and stole our crew’s tip jar. We covered the money stolen so our staff was made whole. No big deal.

We’re not sharing this video because of the money stolen, this is a post about encouraging all of us to be good humans. We cut the person’s face out of the video because we don’t want to out them. We’re sharing this for two reasons.

One, we know who this person is. They are schizophrenic and sometimes roams our neighborhood and will even come into Bourbon n’ Toulouse and order and pay for food. Some days they’re good and some days they are challenging. Regardless, they’re a human being with mental health issues. All too often we want to sweep these issues under the rug or look down upon people who who have a brain that functions different than ours. We as a city need to try to help people who are struggling with mental health issues, not hide from it.

Two, a whole lot of people are struggling financially right now. Fuel, food and housing is not just an issue for people in lower income brackets anymore. It’s an issue for a very high percentage of people in our city. If you’re fortunate enough to be financially comfortable right now then we would challenge you to help put a little food on someone else’s table. We work closely with and have done a lot with over the years. With that being said, there are a lot of amazing organizations out there that are helping with food insecurity. Please tag organizations in the comments that are helping feed our community.

We have a lot of great restaurants in Lexington and Mileta is one of the very best! Our family went there tonight for dinner and before the entrees came out, Lily and Chef Alex popped out of the kitchen with their own little sign…and a big bowl of gumbo! What an incredible surprise. Not only did Chef whip up a pot of gumbo in 20 minutes, but it was absolutely incredible! It was just as good as all of the amazing housemade pasta dishes that we enjoyed. Thanks and for another amazing meal and dining experience!

Now we want to know what’s the best thing you’ve had at ?

We’ll start….GUMBO! 🤤

What’s your cure? I’ll go first. Gumbo with Cheetos on top and extra, extra bread!

What do you think is the worst pothole in Lexington?

Is there a street worse than Fontaine Rd?

Just like we have for almost every game this season, we’ll be sitting in Historic Memorial Coliseum cheering on UK Women’s Basketball and Coach Brooks this Sunday. With that being said, Cameron has been a HUGE fan of Dawn Staley well before it was cool to be a huge fan of Woman’s Basketball. Do your homework and you’ll find out that Coach Staley is one hell of a woman who’s doing life the right way! So, if you can help Cameron out, we’ll be sitting in the front row of Sect. 4 right behind the South Carolina bench with book and sharpie in hand. As a bonus, you’ll be helping me justify the amount I dropped on this Christmas Present!

This is what 4:30 AM at Bourbon n’ Toulouse looks like on Fat Tuesday. Not only did Hurshel and Elliott start cooking Alligator Étouffée, Jambalaya and Gumbo before the alarm clock went off for most of you, but our entire staff have been preparing for days and days to do about a week’s worth of business on a random Tuesday in February. Without a doubt, today will be a crazy day. Will it take a few extra minutes for you to get your food? Probably. Will, your food taste just as amazing as it always does? Absolutely. Will our staff be just as kind as they always are? Without a doubt!

With all that being said, there are two things that Cameron and I would love for you to do today when you come to Bourbon n’ Toulouse. One, show our staff a little grace because they will pull off something today that should not be possible. Two, step back for a second and truly look at them. They will have more fun today than you will have at work all year long and they’ll make this all look easy. Bonus points if you simply tell them “thank you.” We have the absolute best staff in Lexington who truly love what they do. We’re not perfect and never plan to be. If something goes wrong, please let us know. We will do whatever we can to fix it. If our staff tries everything possible to fix a mistake and you’re still rude to them then Bourbon n’ Toulouse is not for you. We treat our staff with the respect they deserve and we request that you do the same.

My email address is [email protected]. Use it if you need it.

Happy Fat Tuesday, y’all!
