BLOCK PARTY THIS WEEKEND!!!

The Warehouse Block is hosting another block party and this one will be bigger and better than ever!! All of your favorite Warehouse Block businesses plus extra food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, live music, and a petting zoo for the kids(adults welcome, too)!! Join us all this Saturday, October 3rd from 2pm-9pm for some wonderful weekend fun.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT!!!

Today we are featuring Curtis, affectionately known as Slaw Dawg around here. Curtis is our longest serving employee and he brings a lot of experience and wisdom to our team. Curtis is originally from Pennsylvania but spent a lot of his childhood in Richmond, where he currently lives. He came to Blue Door through his time at Boone Tavern, where Jeff the owner was executive chef, but they never worked there together. In his free time, he likes to read a lot, write poetry, play guitar, spend time with his girlfriend, and go thrifting. He’s also an avid collector of typewriters, which is where he likes to do his own writing. He’s a behind the scenes guy, so he didn’t even want his picture taken, but we appreciate him and you should, too! Thank you, Slaw Dawg, for being a part of Blue Door for so many years!

We are still not sure why or how, but 6 years ago Donnie Baker live-streamed himself and he was wearing a Blue Door shirt!! I grew up listening to Bob and Tom so Donnie Baker was always a part of that. Sadly, Ron Sexton, who played the character, passed away a few years ago but it’s always fun to see this memory pop up. I swear to God! State law!

The anatomy of a Blue Door Special

1. Plain White Bread, perfect for scraping up those last juicy bits
2. Pickles and Onions, for a little crunch and acidity
3. Potato Salad, our most popular side, but you choose whichever two you like. Made with sour cream, green onions, and dill.
4. Ranch Beans, a Texas style pinto bean with chili flavors and a touch of brown sugar.
5. Pulled Chicken, slow smoked thighs with a sprinkle of our signature rub
6. Beef Brisket, simple seasoned with salt, pepper, and 12 or more hours of oak smoke
7. Smoked Sausage, mild and smoky with a smooth texture
8. Baby Back Ribs, a little sweet and spicy, should pull away from the bone easily
9. Pulled Pork, smoked all night long with our signature rub

Flashback Friday!!

Here are my amazing friends and super sisters, Susie and Sarah, the designers and installers of our amazing custom tile feature. I asked for some ‘help’ but they took it on by themselves and CRUSHED IT!! And neither had ever done tile before, let alone custom work like this. Fun fact: their family owns Arirang Garden Korean BBQ which is one of the best restaurants in town and, by far, one of our favorites for over 20 years.

Also, I technically still owe them a nice dinner out 😂 Where should we go?
