Bill Foley, you will be dearly missed. Your talents and stories will never be forgotten!
These words from David Starcher are truly heartfelt and spot on.
Covid hit and with it shut down everything Bill loved. At his core he was a performer, and he couldn’t perform.
He told me once “yeah I miss the money, my credit card bills sure are stacking up, but I miss my mic more. The mic means live music, it means people are listening.”
He was stuck at home, strumming his guitar and singing in front of a camera that he barely knew how to work. He never liked doing virtual music over Covid, but I would bet, if only a little, it helped scratch that itch to perform.
I checked in on him every once in a while over the covid shutdown. Although he never came out and said it, I could tell part of him was missing. It was the mic.
I pushed Deb and Joe hard on bringing him back in. Pestering everyday until they were annoyed with me.
We brought him back to play, and that was the picture I chose to announce it on Facebook
Admittedly, it was probably way too soon. He played for 5 people that night. Two couples, and their server (me). I’ve listened to about 200 shows of his. It was one of the best shows I ever heard him play.
As I was half assing my closing duties for the night… I realized that I needed the normalcy of a “Bill Foley Thursday night at the pizzeria” as much as he did.
