Our latest news
Are you excited for summer? We are! Our City Market season began May 9 and it's been a blast to interact with new and old customers. We have made great connections and are proud to announce that we are now supplying coffee to The Wooden Spoon in Overland Park and The Cardboard Corner Cafe on Metcalf. Sandra is really excited about the Cardboard Corner Cafe since it is next door to the Metcalf Antique Mall and well, you say antique mall and her eyes get all stary. Add amazing coffee to the mix and she is all set 🤩
But seriously, it has been great to welcome new CGSC students to the area, to chat with our market friends, to welcome new vendors to the City Market, and to put giant smiles on everyone's faces with fresh roasted coffee beans.
Oma's Classics Book Nook got a major upgrade and is now located in The Burrow. We did rename it to Oma's Classics Book Nook, we just had to 😁 We now have the famous Detection Club on our shelves that was founded by none other then Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers and G. K. Chesterson. Jane Austen got a more prominent spot-someone likes her a little more than others 😉- and we have an America 250 spot, highlighting Brian Kilmeades presidential books. We also added a "used books" section and expanded our kids section. We're hoping to have our Kansas Corner finished by the end of the summer.
What's happening:
Sumatra
The island of Sumatra recently took a really big hit with massive rains and flooding, taking out most of their coffee crop. In order to recuperate, prices are much higher and coffee beans sell out much faster. How does this affect us?
Well, we are currently out of Sumatran coffee beans until end of July, but even then, we will have to watch the market closely so we can get a great bean for a great price, so it might take a bit longer to get Sumatra back in the roaster.
America 250 & FIFA World Cup
Downtown shops are gearing up for the KANSAS SUMMER SPIRIT FESTIVAL and BUFFALO BILL WILD WEST FESTIVAL to celebrate not only America's 250th birthday, but also the FIFA World Cup. We already had guests from overseas stop by the shop and load up on coffee. Sandra has created a stunning America 250 mug and the first batch has already sold out! We will have more by the weekend. We hope that you can make it to both events at the end of the month.

Summer
Our July and August City Market days are July 11 and August 8th. We will be set up at Haymarket Square from 8 - 12 pm on those Saturdays with a variety of our coffee beans and select merchandize. You should stop by and shop all local vendors.
Ray will be out of commission for a while this summer as he is looking at 2 surgeries. But don't despair, he will roast up enough coffee beans to get us through. We will also have backup for the time he is out. Our son and daughter and granddaughters will be in town for a good chunk this summer and are ready to step in, so say HI to them when you see them, if you can recognize them 😉
We will be open 8 - 1 pm on the 4th of July so our employees can celebrate this special birthday.
As always, we look forward to greeting you with a smile and a hot cuppa joe. Or iced, cause Kansas summers are hot 🔥🔥🔥
