This weekend should have been the “That Takes the Cake” cake show and competition but, like so many other things, it was cancelled due to COVID. Here is a flashback to the 2019 competition with the theme of “Wild Wild West”. I attempted new things and thankfully it went really well. I won 6 medals! Three in the Tasting Divisions and three in the Decorating Divisions (adult beginner). It is always stressful, but also always a lot of fun as well. I hope the cake show can return one day, I would like to compete again.

It’s National Pie Day! So many pies, so little time! What to do?How about 3 pies in 1? That’s right! Here we have CHERRY 🍒 PIE, APPLE 🍎 PIE, and BLACKBERRY PIE baked all together! Oh hapPIE days!

December 8th is National Brownie Day! I made these Chocolate Brownies with a Chocolate Frosting. Twice the chocolate, twice the fun! This Brownie is full of so much chocolatey goodness, you might think you’re eating fudge!

It’s National Peanut Butter Fudge Day! So, to celebrate, I made some. This is a creamy Peanut Butter Fudge that was first drizzled with Peanut Butter and then Dark Chocolate. It is melt in your mouth delicious!

🍏🍎It’s National Apple Cider Day 🍎🍏 I made Apple Cider Cookies (stuffed with caramel and then rolled in cinnamon sugar) topped with an Apple Cider Glaze.🍎🍏🍎🍏

It’s National BAKLAVA day! Thank you to Chef Michael Symon and the Food Network for the recipe - it was a huge hit! What’s not to love? 32 flaky, crispy, and buttery layers of phyllo dough with both pistachios and walnuts layered in between. It’s baked until it’s golden brown and then bathed in a local Texas honey and sugar syrup! Then you have to wait at least 6 long and torturous hours until you can dive into this big ‘ole pan o’ deliciousness! But, once you do... you’ll be singing 🎵🎶 “How about a little more BAKLAVA...”🎶🎵

If you can’t come to BAKEDbyLOLA, then sometimes BAKEDbyLOLA can come to you. Like these Red Velvet Whoopie Pies with Chocolate Marshmallow Cream Filling that flew to Ohio today (compliments of my husband and daughter who are off to visit family). These Whoopie Pies are better traveled than I am!
