Y’all! 🥹❤️ Lee’s parents are retiring after running their laundromat for 27 years! 🧺✨
They’re both in their 70s now, and we couldn’t be happier for them, even though we know their minds aren’t quite ready to let go of their lifelong business. But their bodies are saying it’s finally time. ❤️
That also means our lil’ baker man is officially losing another “job” when we visit Canada next time 😂🪙 He use to help Grandma and Grandpa sort and count the coins, and in return, they’d pay him with bags of chips and juice! 🧃😁 I guess retirement means he’s out of job too! 😂
We don’t think we’ve shared much about Lee’s parents on our page, so today feels like the perfect day to let y’all get to know a little more about them. 😊
Lee’s parents were immigrants from Cambodia who fled the civil wars that took millions of lives in the late 1970s. Lee’s uncle and his wife sponsored them to come to Canada 🇨🇦. Lee was only about 3 years old at the time. They moved to a completely new country without speaking any English, but they never let that stop them from pursuing their dreams.
They started from the very bottom—cleaning movie theaters, working on a chicken farm, running a small donut shop, sewing clothes, and eventually working for many years at the laundromat they are now retiring from.
They worked so hard for their family that they often missed their children’s graduations and school events. Even into their 70s, they rarely took a day off unless they were traveling to visit family in Cambodia.
Lee and his two sisters have always told their parents that they never held that against them. They understood that Mom and Dad were working hard because they wanted to provide a better life for their children.
But Lee’s mom often tells me how much she regrets missing those important milestones in her children’s lives. That’s why she always reminds us, “Don’t miss it.” ❤️
And honestly, because of how hard they worked and sacrificed, we kids are blessed in so many ways.
It takes me back to 2015, when Lee and I took over Bonnie’s. We didn’t have enough money to buy the business at the time, but Lee’s parents never hesitated to help us. Of course, we paid them back, but their kindness and the love they’ve shown us are something we could never truly repay. ❤️
Last Christmas, when they came to visit us, I took Lee’s mom to our son’s school Christmas party. She was sitting there sobbing and kept telling our lil’ baker man how lucky he is to have parents who work so hard and still can make the time to be there for him, unlike his daddy and aunties when they were growing up. 🥹
I told her that we are so thankful for her and Dad. Because of how hard they worked and everything they sacrificed, their children are now in a better place with more opportunities than where they started, and their grandchildren are happy and blessed because of it.
Of course… that only made her cry even harder. 🥹❤️
So, Mom and Dad, thank you. Thank you for every sacrifice, every long day, every missed event, and every opportunity you gave your children. Your hard work built a better life for your family and future generations after you.
You truly are the best parents-in-law I could ever ask for. ❤️
Happy retirement, Mom and Dad! 🎉🧺🥰
You’ve worked hard for so manyyyyy years, and now it’s finally time to rest, travel, enjoy life, spend more time with family, and make up for all those missed moments. ❤️
We love you both so much, and we can’t wait to celebrate this new chapter with you! ❣️🥰❤️ The Laundry Cafe
