Officially 9 years together. 6 years married.

When we got married, one of my vows to Jakob was: I promise to try as many side hustles as possible until we get stinking rich.

And honestly? We did. Just not in the way we expected.

We aren’t rich because of a bank account.

We’re rich because somewhere along the way, one of those crazy ideas became a pink pretzel truck. We’re rich in the friendships built standing in parking lots. We’re rich in the relationships with customers who became friends and friends who became family.
We’re rich in memories made with our daughter growing up around this business.

We’re rich in community. We’re rich in love.

For 9 years, you’ve listened to every wild idea I’ve had. You’ve built things, fixed things, hauled trailers, worked events, washed dishes, folded boxes, and believed in dreams that absolutely sounded ridiculous at the time.

The Pretzelly Truck may have started as one of the many side hustle attempts, but it only exists because you helped me build it.

So here’s to 9 years together, 6 years married, and whatever crazy ideas come next!

We are officially one of the Top 5 Food Trucks in Lawrence!

Honestly, I am still a little shocked.

When we started this crazy pretzel adventure, I never imagined we’d be here. We just wanted to make great pretzels, create a fun place for people to gather, and build something our community could be proud of.

Because of YOU, we made the Top 5.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote, share our posts, visit the truck, bring your friends, and support this dream.

Making the Top 5 is an honor all by itself. There are so many incredible food trucks in our area, and being included alongside them is something we’re incredibly grateful for.

We’ll find out in September where we officially place, but for now we’re just soaking in the fact that a little pink pretzel truck made the Top 5. 🥹

Y’all: “Andrew’s pretzels can’t be THAT bad.”

The ugly you got: 🥨✨
The ugly I refused to serve: 😭💀

Listen, Andrew is improving rapidly, and most of the pretzels making it out the door are just a little creatively interpreted.

But every now and then one comes out looking like it lost a fight with a lawn mower and those get retired before they ever make it to your box. (Don’t worry, we have a great retirement program. It includes feeding me, myself, and I)

We’re rooting for Andrew’s pretzel-shaping journey, but some of these are less “pretzel” and more “ancient artifact discovered by archaeologists.”

The good news? Every ugly pretzel is one step closer to a beautiful pretzel.

The bad news? I now have an entire camera roll dedicated to crimes against pretzel-kind.

If your pretzel is a little, well, ugly, this weekend, here’s why.

We’ve had a little turnover recently and are still getting some new folks trained up. On top of that, we’ve got a couple team members out of town this weekend (shoutout to Anna on her bachelorette trip! 💕).

That means some people have been stepping into new roles.

Our dish guy, Andrew, has officially been promoted to Pretzel Shaper Against His Will™. The good news? He’s really trying. The bad news? He’s REALLY trying.

Thankfully, ugly pretzels taste exactly the same as pretty pretzels. They also weigh the same! Each piece of dough is hand cut and weighed for consistency!

A huge shoutout to Grace, who stepped up to help us out before also heading out of town, and to everyone who been jumps in whenever needed.

So if your pretzel this weekend has a little extra personality, just know it’s part of Andrew’s training arc!

Be nice. We’re growing people over here, not just pretzels. 🥨💖

Where should The Pretzelly Truck go next?

Drop your favorite Kansas town, business, winery, brewery, park, shopping district, or shady parking lot below.

A few things:
☀️ July is HOT, so you’ll probably see us focusing on more evening events when possible.
🌳 Bonus points for places with shade because we’d like to avoid collectively melting into pretzel-shaped puddles.
🚦We are trying to stay within a 1 hour radius
🎆 We also have a really fun surprise planned for the 4th of July!

“It’s just business, don’t take it so personally.”

I don’t think I’ll ever understand that. Maybe it’s just business when you’re a giant corporation or it’s just business when you’re looking at spreadsheets instead of people.

But this has always been personal.

Every event booked, every cancellation, every employee hired, every customer who waits in line, every good review, every bad review, every pretzel shaped.

It’s personal because I built it. This truck isn’t just a side project. It’s years of early mornings, late nights, anxiety, excitement, mistakes, growth, tears (lots and lots of tears), and victories.

It’s family dinners missed, friendships made, and lessons learned the hard way.

It’s a piece of me and sometimes I wish I could separate my feelings from the business a little better. But the truth is, I care. Probably too much.

I care about the customers. I care about the team. I care about the experience people have when they walk up to that pink truck.

So no, for me, it’s never been “just business.”It’s personal.

Today has me feeling… spicy.

So let’s talk about the spicy pretzels. I genuinely thought Hot Wing was going to dominate this month (ranch?? Y’all LOVE ranch??) Instead, Jalapeño Pop came in and stole the spotlight.

“Why is Pride important?”

Because these are real messages. These aren’t screenshots from some random corner of the internet. These are comments and messages because I chose to support Pride and publicly say that LGBTQ+ people deserve love, dignity, and respect.

And I’m what many people would consider straight-passing. So if this is what people feel comfortable saying to me, imagine what they say to people who are openly and visibly q***r every single day.

That’s why Pride matters.

Pride matters because there is still a kid somewhere who believes it would be better to be dead than gay. To be dead than transgender. Better to be dead than rejected by their family, friends, or community for simply being who they are.

Pride isn’t about being better than anyone else. It’s about community. It’s about saying, “You belong here.”

That’s what this truck has always been about. Not just pretzels, but people. Creating a space where everyone is welcome, everyone is valued, and everyone gets to show up exactly as they are.

And to be clear: this isn’t a post asking for sympathy. I am just fine. But a lot of people receiving messages like these don’t feel fine. That’s exactly why Pride still matters

“Allyssa, why do you love what you do so much?”

This. This is the energy I’m met with everywhere I go.

People standing in line laughing with their friends, excited about pretzels, taking pictures, waving at the truck, sticking their heads in the window like they’ve known us forever.

How many people get to say that almost every interaction they have at work is with someone who’s genuinely excited to see them? Not very many, I’d imagine.

And that’s what makes this so special.

Yes, it’s a lot of work. It’s long days, early mornings, late nights, weather stress, equipment problems, and a never-ending to-do list. But then I look out the window and see this.

Happy people. Excited people. People who chose to spend part of their day with us.

And honestly? That’s pretty electrifying. 😭
