I’ve been the curator behind Sip’s Instagram for the last few years. This is partially why you haven’t seen my face on here before, but with all the recent changes, I wanted to share some thoughts.

One of the toughest things about working in this industry is that you are forever saying goodbye.  You say goodbye to small things, from changes in pace to menu adjustments, the art on the walls you’ve come to love, the plants you can’t keep alive.  You say goodbye to coworkers, and sometimes even employers – people who have been by your side for weeks and months and even years, who have become like family from all the tasks you’ve shared, the stress-induced tears and inside jokes and sheer appreciation for just having your back day in and day out.

Sometimes you say goodbye to regulars – the ones whose names and orders you know by heart, whose kids you’ve met and puppies you’ve photographed.  This is one of the toughest goodbyes, because in this industry, the thing you love most about what you do is entirely dependent on your community.  On their willingness to keep showing up, and the generosity with which they share their lives with you.

Towards that end, I must say - you all have been the absolute best community we could have asked for here at Sip. We’ve loved getting to know you and your drinks, your stories and your families.  It’s been an honor to serve you coffee each morning, and for me personally, the first time I’ve ever had a real community of my own.

I know goodbyes are tough on you, too.  It can’t be easy watching so many changes occur at a place that has been your home-away-from-home as well as ours, and we’re grateful you’ve stuck with us through everything this far.  There will always be change up ahead.

But for now, I just want to say …
Thank you.

*Thanks for taking over as photographer, Payton!

We wanted to post this one earlier, but as you know if you came by Sip today - it was one of our busiest ever. Fitting, since it was also Paige’s last day at the cafe. Paige has been one of the longest-standing employees at Sip, sticking with us straight through high school and well into college. She’s also been one of the most reliable and responsible employees, a super quick learner with an even quicker wit. I can’t tell you how many times Joe and I were overworked, understaffed, and completely behind, and knew it’d all be okay because Paige was coming in.
Paige - thank you. For everything. You are going to be so, so missed. Couldn’t have done this without you.

Many of you know me as the owner at Sip, and that is how I’ve approached managing the café - as if it were mine. When we first opened, we weren’t the busy café we are now. The OG regulars reminisce about the days of not having to wait in line, but are also proud of our success. The truth is, our success includes all of you, too. When you open a small business, success is dependent on your passion resonating within the community you serve. Your support goes beyond just coffee, and has validated the vision I had over 5 years ago when we first opened. I have always tried to provide a place where people felt welcomed and actually seen. As much as I hope we have been able to provide that for you, I know you have provided that for me, and for us. And of course, without the support of the staff, their belief in me, and the trust that we were doing something worth all the hard work, none of this would have been possible. I am humbled by their commitment, and I know they gave me more than I can repay.

Sadly, it has become necessary for me to move on, and my last day at Sip will be Tuesday, October 26. This was an extremely difficult decision for me to make, and I will greatly miss being part of your daily lives.

At this time, we are unaware of how the management company that owns the cafe plans on proceeding, and we cannot say with any certainty what will come next. I can only say it has been the greatest honor to have spent this time with all of you. Thank you for everything!

Joe Valentino

Hello everyone. 💌
Things have been a bit tough lately. We’ve had our fair share of curveballs and staffing issues, and wanted to let you know how thankful we are for your continued support - especially with our unexpected closes over the last couple weeks. We are doing our best to bring you the same experience and level of service you’ve come to know as our guests (and family), and we appreciate your patience during this time.
We will be open tomorrow (10/15) from 7-2 PM, and then later in the evening from 6-8 PM for our monthly art reception (craft beer, hand-picked wines, espresso, and art!). Please join us for both!
See you soon. Love, Sip
