I’ve been the curator behind Sip’s Instagram for the last few years. This is partially why you haven’t seen my face on here before, but with all the recent changes, I wanted to share some thoughts.
One of the toughest things about working in this industry is that you are forever saying goodbye. You say goodbye to small things, from changes in pace to menu adjustments, the art on the walls you’ve come to love, the plants you can’t keep alive. You say goodbye to coworkers, and sometimes even employers – people who have been by your side for weeks and months and even years, who have become like family from all the tasks you’ve shared, the stress-induced tears and inside jokes and sheer appreciation for just having your back day in and day out.
Sometimes you say goodbye to regulars – the ones whose names and orders you know by heart, whose kids you’ve met and puppies you’ve photographed. This is one of the toughest goodbyes, because in this industry, the thing you love most about what you do is entirely dependent on your community. On their willingness to keep showing up, and the generosity with which they share their lives with you.
Towards that end, I must say - you all have been the absolute best community we could have asked for here at Sip. We’ve loved getting to know you and your drinks, your stories and your families. It’s been an honor to serve you coffee each morning, and for me personally, the first time I’ve ever had a real community of my own.
I know goodbyes are tough on you, too. It can’t be easy watching so many changes occur at a place that has been your home-away-from-home as well as ours, and we’re grateful you’ve stuck with us through everything this far. There will always be change up ahead.
But for now, I just want to say …
Thank you.
*Thanks for taking over as photographer, Payton!
