Can you believe it? We are coming up on our last event for the season on June 13. After that we will take a short summer break and return to our regular schedule in September. While we won’t have a live band this month we will have lots of German music playing, plenty of singing and I know I will get out and dance at least a couple times! (I do live to do the chicken dance with the kids haha). As always we will have delicious food, beverages of all types and lots of Gemütlichkeit! We hope you can join us!

We as a club would like to thank you for coming and supporting the LIederkranz Club this year. This summer we will reach 157 years of celebrating our German heritage (and many other ethnic backgrounds) with song (Lieder), food, beverages and friendship circles (kranz). We continue as the oldest ethnic club in Michigan and one of the longest continuously running clubs in the country. We are so glad you are a part of this circle!

I’m excited to announce the return of our Spring Salad Luncheon on May 20. This is one of our most popular events of the year!

Did you know salads are extremely popular in Germany? German salads are known for their simplicity and freshness, and besides lettuce type salads they frequently feature hearty ingredients like
Kartoffelsalat (potato salad), Gurkensalat (cucumber salad), Krautsalat (cabbage salad), and Wurstsalat (sausage salad…yes, a salad made with a lunch meat type of sausages 😆).

Our membership really goes all out to provide a wide variety of the best salads (savory to sweet) to fill your plate along with a wonderful bratwurst and all the fixings. Plus there will be so many delicious homemade desserts to pick from! Last year the tables were positively groaning with the amount of food and the variety was incredible.

Coffee or tea will be included with the lunch (and water). A couple specialty non-alcoholic drinks will be also be available for purchase at our bar along with a large selection of pop (fountain or cans).

Our roving barbershop singers will entertain you while you eat 🎶 as well!

Everyone is welcome and we hope to see you there!

This month’s Dinner/Dance will be held on May 16 in celebration of Maifest (May Fest)!

Maifest in Germany is a time for celebrating the transition from winter to summer with blooming fruit trees, fruit wines, beer, fireworks and parades. Maifest has its roots in one of mankind’s oldest traditions in welcoming the new growing season! What was an ancient pagan festival eventually took on Christian religious significance, and has evolved to become a colorful, joyous part of European history and culture, with distinctive traditions like the dancing around the maypole. We only have one more Dinner/Dance for the season (next one will be June 13 and then we are off until September!)

So let’s celebrate the beautiful month of May at the Liederkranz! Shine up your dance shoes, start think about delicious sauerkraut, pork roast, spätzle (and more) and get ready for our next Dinner/Dance!

~Delicious food 5-6:30
~Excellent German beverages all evening from our fully stocked bar (including a refreshing Maifest drink special)
~Wonderful music with the Meridian Polka band from 6:00-?
~Viel Gemütlichkeit (lots of friendly good cheer)

Everyone is welcome and we look forward to seeing you soon!

April Showers! It’s time for Frühlingfest (spring fest) in Germany, the spring festival season goes from April to early May. Frühlingfest is know as the little sister to Oktoberfest. A little less crowded, a little more reserved with families and friends having joyful celebrations for the end of winter and the beginning of fest season!

We are thinking about our Spring Dinner/Dance on April 18 here at the Lansing Liederkranz German-American Club.

So think spring, shine up your dance shoes, start dreaming about delicious sauerkraut, pork roast, spätzle (and more) and get ready for our next Dinner/Dance!

We will be having our next German Dinner/Dance at the Liederkranz Club of Lansing on March 21. We will be celebrating not only the first day of spring but also St. Patrick's Day weekend.

Is St. Patrick’s Day celebrated in Germany? Absolutely (all week)! Not only have a sizable number of Irish ex-pats immigrated to Germany but also the Germans have long been known to celebrate the saints, enjoy any festival, the wearing of the green, drinking a fine beer and toasting Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona duit!

Get out your green, shine up your dance shoes, start dreaming about delicious sauerkraut, pork roast, spätzle (and more) and get ready for our second Dinner/Dance of 2026!

So let’s celebrate St. Patrick’s Day weekend like Germans!

It’s almost Fasching time! Get out your costume, shine up your dance shoes, start dreaming about delicious sauerkraut, pork roast, spätzle (and more) and get ready for our first Dinner/Dance of 2026! We are so excited to get back in the swing of things and I have to admit Fasching is my FAVORITE dance of the year!

Fasching is a traditional festival in Germany to mark the period before Lent. Think Mardi Gras but German style! Carnival season is a time of parades, elaborate costumes, masked balls and street parties that culminates on Shrove Tuesday.

Fasching can also be traced back into pagan times. It started as an event to drive out the winter and the ghosts of darkness who had begun to lose their powers as the sun started to warm up in springtime.

So let’s celebrate before Lent and drive out winter!

~Delicious food 5-6:30
~Excellent German beverages all evening
~Wonderful music with the Enriettis 6:00-?
~Fun costume parade and contest (with prizes!)
~Viel Gemütlichkeit (lots of friendly good cheer)

All are welcome at this fun family friendly event!
We look forward to seeing you soon!
