The man that kept me sweet 🤎

My little slogan that I’m trying to get going, “Stay Sweet,” is more than just a cute little saying because I sell sweet rolls. It’s a reminder of why I started. A mantra.

There was so much going on when I started this little business. Lots of grief, rage, bitterness, and just good old fashioned depression. But, I knew I had a choice. I could dig down into my despair and rot there, or I could claw my way out. This business model would require me to:

1. Leave my house
2. Talk to other people
3. Smile, even if I was faking it
4. Work with my hands
5. Consistently show up

It worked as intended. Fake it till you make it.

But before all that… there was Mike. He kept reminding me that there was some sweetness left in me. That I could still laugh. That I could move forward. And that I could definitely start a random baking business on a whim with no formal training. My man 🤎

Got a lot going on in my head… doesn’t always come out real clearly 😅

I had a good few years where I tried to not be so “Type A.” It was probably good for me in some ways. I sat back, observed others (mainly women) and how they flowed through life, so unbothered by things that heavily bothered me. Some of my bothers were unrealistic, and pointed outward rather than inward. Some things I was trying to control were not meant for me to control. The list goes on.

But lately, I am remembering that God made me this way for a reason, and it has gotten me through a lot of things. I’m gonna keep the pace that feels natural to me, and I’m gonna accept that not everyone can keep up 🤎

Some of y’all day ones may remember Angus! I brought him with me for the first year, as a 6 month old puppy. I knew he needed the socialization, and honestly I needed the support he gave me. He was a great icebreaker for a nervous Mary trying to talk to customers. How long ago that seems! Once he grew into an adult Cane Corso and all that comes with that, he made it clear to me that he’d like to stick to his day job, protecting the fence line from the trash truck. I respected his decision!

Anyways. He’s still here. We took a trip to the vet today, and as life goes, he’s gonna cost me some money next month 😅. Every time I start baking again, all that “extra cash” I dream of is already accounted for lol. Apparently his “itchy eyes” that I sadly attributed to allergies for way too long, is actually his eyelids turning into his eyes! Gosh. My poor baby. He will need a surgery to correct this. And if that wasn’t enough, he also has a staph infection in some of his many face rolls. Sigh. Angus. I’m sorry, buddy.

Anyways. The bun fund from now on is actually just the Angus fund lmao! He’s still on the payroll, and so he gets employee benefits 🤷🏼‍♀️🫶

I have been so excited for this! Thank you for inviting me to your Protection Sports Association trial event. Again, I’m amazed where this little business has taken me. When would I ever have seen an event like this lol?? I love dog training and WOW, y’all are elite. Great dogs and trainers!
